Hello there.
Thankyou for the info. I'm not sure where my Father served or even which regiment. All I know at the moment is that he was a member of his regiments gymnastics & fencing (sword not stolen goods ::))teams but I will keep trying.

regards
Irene

Thankyou both for all your help.
I have a very elderly uncle ( a brother of my mother ) living in Australia. He was very close to my father so I will contact him & hopefully he will be able to give me enough info. to continue the search. It's worth a try & there's nothing to lose, so I will be back at a later date.

Dublin / Irish in the Spanish Civil War

Hello There Christopher
I have been looking at the sites you both mentioned but as i have no real knowledge of my fathers service in Spain, I think I may have to give up so to speak. I don't even know how long he was out there. The only comment I ever heard him make was that bullfighting was a very cruel sport.
I'm not sure if you meant that I had put my email address on my post, I hope not but if I did I will try to make sure it doesn't happen again. As you can probably tell, I'm new to this lark & very unsure of procedures.
Many thanks.

Many thanks to both of you for your help. To my knowledge my father only ever served in a regular army but I can't be sure. My parents didn't talk about their early lives very much, not for any sinister reason but purely because neither my siblings or myself asked them any questions. We were in contact with all grandparents & other relations until their deaths when suddenly you develop an interest & there is no longer any one left who can help. Murphy's Law  perhaps? ;D
I will now try the sites mentioned & hopefully have some luck.
Thanks once again & a Very Happy Christmas to you both.

Thanks very much for any help. :-*
