Worcestershire / Wills Indices 1652-1800
« on: Sunday 03 March 13 11:11 GMT (UK)  »
The British Records Society seems to have produced indices for Consistory Court of Worcester Wills up to 1652, but not for more recent ones. Are they indexed somewhere else or do the Microfilms of them contain an index on each film?

Also, just to make sure I am planning on looking at then right wills, I am interested in the areas around Birlingham, Upton Upon Severn and Ross on Wye. Am I correct in saying that I should be looking at the Consistory Court of Worcs Wills for Birlingham & Upton and the Consistory Court of Hereford for Ross?

You don't say what time period you need the map for.  Modern maps, say post 1850, reflect the changes of industrialisation.  If you are looking before the 1830s the Phillimore's maps may be what you need.

Thanks Mike.  I am interested in Pre-1850. The Phillimore map would be perfect, if it was online?

Try also http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Maps_of_Worcestershire

which includes a blank parish map.....

Yes Ok, but is there one with a Parish Map that isn't blank, i.e. that has parish names on it  ;)

There is this one from family search which overlays the parishes onto a modern or historic map. http://maps.familysearch.org/

The downside is that today it is not working correctly ::)  So you could try it later or tomorrow.

Mo

Thanks Mo. When I try it this morning I just get a blue haze over Worcs! Will try again l8r.

I'm probably being blind, but I am not finding much of use when I search online for a Worcs Parish Map. Please can someone point me to one. Thanks.

Thanks Nell  :)

It's a shame they think it will take years before they comeplete the NWI. Just using the current BRS books and digitising them would be fairly simple but, reading between the lines, it seems they may be going back to the original records?
