I am a descendant of the Virginia/West Virginia Aylestock Family and have done a lot of research. I've been in contact with someone in your Canadian branch named Andre. We have a James Ailstock born in Virginia in 1802. Might this be your James Aylstock born in 1818? William, James, and Sally are all common names in our family.
I have a copy of the marriage certificate of James Aylstock (1844) and Emaline Johnston. James parents are listed as Sally Aylstock "born in slavery" and the name of the father is left blank. Might James Aylestock (1818) have been his uncle rather than father?
