Surrey Lookup Requests / Union workhouse for Walton On Thames?
« on: Monday 17 February 14 13:43 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to trace back my great, great grandmother Sarah Hoare (was Lee) and found her burial records on ancestry. It says her abode was "Union Workhouse"..so I assumed, maybe wrongly, that it would of been Chertsey Union Workhouse, but she doesnt come up on the list that the surrey council website has ??? Have I got the wrong workhouse? or is it just that her name isnt recorded? I dont know when she was admitted, but she died in July 1869 amd was buried at St Marys in WOT on the 13/08/1869. I'm hoping someone can help point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance x

Rosie, I'm not definite on them being buried, apart from John James Hoare, we know he is buried with his wife, but we don't know where, although going by his last address in Hersham I'd say its a good chance its in Hersham or even Walton. Family stories say that apparently there are quite a few "Hoares" in St Peters, which if I am correct in assuming is what used to be Holy Trinity? Thank you so much for that Kevin! We know now where to go to see my great, great, great grandfathers resting place! x

I'm hoping someone can do some look ups for me in the Hersham/Walton areas, or point me to where I would be able to find the information? These are all my mums side of the family, and we believe them to be buried in the Hersham and Walton areas of Surrey.

Ta - uncomfortable that the 2nd initial doesnt match Marriage name - and also no obvious Thompson / Moore marriage - at least with forename Julia ....
Julia isn't a definite...unfortunately my fathers memory is not what it was at all....

Thats the original birth I had...then my uncle said about her being born in Africa....think the only way this is going to get solved is from the marriage certificate x

I remember my father saying something about her father possibly working on the ships in different countries....this would explain why she was born in Africa I suppose.....problem is its all word of mouth, and we know that doesnt always mean its true x
