Yes the Margaret and Jane living with relations in the 1881 census are definitely my relations. Jane married a Joseph Birch and her father is listed as Thomas Holcroft (alive) a collier - St Thomas, Wigan on April 15, 1893.

2
From relations family tree site I was informed that Thomas Holcroft born 1828 had parents Thomas Holcroft and Mary Cooper, but it must be incorrect if the marriage cert says his father was Charles.

3
I have found Margaret age 15 and Jane age 7 on the 1881 census for Wigan, but living with relatives, no parents listed.

4
Hello, actually that is not the correct family, as the Jane Holcroft I am related to her father was Thomas Holcroft, but his father was also Thomas not Charles

5
Thank you, I believe Gaskell is the correct name - much appreciated.

Hello,

I am trying to find out the name (inc. maiden name) of the wife of Thomas Holcroft from Wigan (b.1828), Lancashire. His daughters are Margaret Holcroft (b. 1866) and Jane Holcroft (b.1872). I know Jane married Joseph Birch in St Thomas, Wigan on April 15, 1893, Father of Bride listed as Collier, Bride address on marriage cert 6 James Street. I can't find their mother's name on any marriage or baptism cert. Margaret aged 26 and Jane age 18 are listed together on the 1891 census, but not their parents. I can't determine the correct family for the 1881 census.

Hello,

I'm trying to work out what the second column for the attached says? I know the first says Housekeeper (which is for Occupation category), but I can't work out the words written in the category for Industry. The attached is from 1940 United States Federal Census - Mary A Drake

Yes I saw that record on Roots Ireland today, and Joanna Bourke's mother was Maria Casey (Joanna was born 1815) in Coughlan. The Casey's are the family from Kilbeheny I suspected the connection with Michael Reardon to, so it all fits in. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.
