Dear Heywood,

Thank you for replying to my post!!

The first website you referred to was the correct one...they reference the marriage between Mary Frazer, who emigrated to America, and a William Johnston in 1815 (Generation 5, Item 9), but there is no genealogy on William and no children listed for Mary and William and therefore I cannot determine if it is the correct family and I don't know how to try to figure out if it is the correct family since I don't have enough information on my side for the Irish ancestry.

I have looked at the Griffiths Valuation (thank you very much), but again, I think I am stupid!!!  There is one Johnston, but the name does not match...and there are Frazer's but with it only being men, it makes it hard to figure out.  Plus the family emigrated to America in 1850...so maybe they missed the valuation and that is why they are not there....I just am beginning to think I am not smart enough to understand the records from these other countries.

AND the Tithe Applotment Books....I found a record with 2 William Johnston's....a Sr and a Jr....and that would match the family I am researching...but would it have a Jr that would be only about 6 years old???  Otherwise, again, nothing really matches what I think I know...but then again, maybe what I think I might know (not really) is not accurate and I am going in circles...

Any advice???

Thanks again for all of your help!!

Susan

I am trying to find the Irish ancestry of Mary Frazer Johnston b. 1792 and William Johnston b. ab 1790 m. bef 1827.  I know they emigrated to Lewis County, New York on 5 Sep 1850 from Liverpool, England, but some of the records in America are non-existent.  I have located 4 children, but don't know if there were more.  All of the known children were born in Ireland, but again, I don't know where.  None of the records I have found have given the information of their heritage, other than the fact that they were from Ireland.

The children are as follows:

William F. b. abt 1827
Archibald b. abt 1833
Alexander L. b. 13 Feb 1834
Mary L. b. abt 1840

I am not 100% sure that Mary's maiden name is Frazer/Fraser, but the family seems to think so.  I have searched the records in Lewis County, New York and have found some information, but nothing tells me Mary's maiden name.  In fact, I cannot even locate her place of death.  I can place her there from 1860 to 1875, but after that, I cannot find her.  I assume she died between 1875 and 1880, since she does not appear in the 1880 census.  The same can be said for William Johnston.  I have a passenger record for him, dated 5 Sep 1850, but other than the census records, there is nothing found for him, either in county or city records.

There is a researcher who shows that there was a marriage of a Mary Frazer, daughter of Archibald Frazer and Anne Stinson, to William Johnston on 6 Apr 1815 in Ardcarne.  Their source is only listed as JDH, but I don't know what that means.  According to another source, this Mary and William emigrated to America, but there is no additional information known about them.

I am trying to ascertain if the Mary and William noted in the above researcher's records are indeed the same Mary and William in the family I am researching.  I have contacted the researcher and he does not know.  I am hoping that someone at this site will be able to help me figure this out, or send me in the right direction...I am really stuck!!!

Thank you so very much for your help!!
