Europe / Re: Ferdinand and Frederick Grott - Danzig, Prussia
« on: Friday 08 March 19 14:16 GMT (UK)  »
I have now found out that the family name was Groth and not Grott!  It also appears that Ferdinand was actually Jacob Ferdinand Groth and his father was Jacob Abraham Groth (he was named as Frederick Grott on Ferdinand's marriage certificate).  I have been given information about Ferdinand's siblings, so I now have a more complete picture of my ancestor's family.

Ferdinand and his siblings were baptised in St Katherine's Kirche, Danzig and St Barbara's Kirche, Danzig.

It is very satisfying to find information that I had been searching for, for more than 30 years!

Renfrewshire / Re: Wellpark Parish Church - Greenock

The church that was on the corner of Regent Street and Antigua Street was the East Kirk.  Probably not helpful to you, but it was another of the churches on Regent Street.

The church at the corner of Regent Street and Roxburgh Street, was called Wellpark West Church, if my memory serves me correctly.  I don't remember a church on the corner of Regent Street and Lynedoch Street - are you sure there was one there?

Tyrone / James Dowdall and Mary Jane Prince
« on: Monday 24 April 17 20:27 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for information on the families of James Dowdall (born 1830) and Mary Jane Prince (born circa 1830).  They were married in Belfast on 27 September 1850 - the record says it was a Civil Marriage Record.  His father was John Dowdall (Labourer) and her parents were Thomas Prince (Boot and Shoe Maker) and Mary Green.  James and Mary had 10 children, 6 of them born in Ireland (some of them in County Tyrone).  They moved to Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland between 1862 and 1863, where they remained.

I would particularly like to know dates of birth, marriage, death of both sets of parents and how many siblings there were in each family.  I don't have dates of birth for James or Mary, but I do have full information once they got to Scotland.  The name Dowdall became Dowall eventually, and is the name used by the family today.

I will post this message on the Antrim sub-forum too, to cover both areas I know about.

Many thanks in anticipation.

Hi Rudolf

I don't know at all, but my instinct would say Lutheran.

Fife / Re: Headstone Inscriptions LOCHGELLY CEMETERY
« on: Sunday 21 February 16 22:30 GMT (UK)  »
Doing a bit more research, and finding that a number of the ones I asked about seem to have died in Kirkcaldy (even though they lived in Lochgelly).  That probably explains why they're not buried in Lochgelly cemetery.

Thanks again Norrie for all your efforts.
