Sorry, Elizabeth Ann Bell, she often put 88/89 so used to typing that. She was born 17th April 1885 6 Park Road Durham.

Aaron born 28th Oct 1908, 287 High Lanes Heworth Durham to Aaron Ashcroft and Elizabeth Ann Bell.

Thanks all. Yes, I have the information all given already, but thank you, as its good to have a second pair of eyes come up with the same information to confirm my details are correct. Much appreciated.

My Great Granddad (Francis McGurk) married Elizabeth Ann Ashcroft nee Bell formerly Todd (first Hubby died) Francis and Elizabeth married in 1918 and had my Granddad in 1922.

She said she was widowed, clearly not as Aaron SNR was alive until 1955 and my Francis McGurk said Bachelor but he was previously married, with a son and his wife didnt die until later on to.

Im interested in descendants of young Aaron 1908. He seems to have vanished.

Family of Ashcrofts I had contact with years ago told me children were Isabella, JOHN/JACKIE Catherine and Adeline Ashcroft not an Aaron but yes, Aaron has come up in my Francis McGurk ( under McYurk transcript error) and I have his birth certificate to confirm Aaron 1908 Parents Aaron and Elizabeth Ann.

Im thinking possibly Aaron changed his name to John as in 1930 Electoral roll an Isabella Ashcroft and a John Ashcroft are with my Elizabeth Ann Sothern, yep, now married a Myles Sothern (yep, 4 marriages)

Im interested in Aaron/John/Jackie, as a person who is a DNA link to my Mum and I, they are rather close DNA and could pass as a sibling in looks to be honest.
John/Jackie Ashcroft was a Policeman maybe London married with two kids.

Persons Father is not listed on their birth certificate.

Name she was given as a Father was a Patrick/Paddy Sothern but he doesnt seem to exist either and even if Myles and Elizabeth Ann now Sothern had a child he would be to young to be this persons Father.

The only person I can think of being her real Father is Aaron/John/Jackie Ashcroft as my Granddads brothers both died well before.

Who ever Im looking for would be born between 1900-1915.
Worked in Hastings Sussex at an Amusement Park arcade for a year or so and a Special Constable directing traffic.
He possibly went to Liverpool and became a Policeman around 1949. (why Im looking for John/Jackie Ashcroft as date of birth and Occupation fit, I know Liverpool and London two different places but one could have been told wrong)
DNA suggests born Gateshead/Durham/Yorkshire and thats where my Granddads side are from.

Any suggestions where to look? Sorry very long and convoluted..

Durham / ASHCROFT Family

I am chasing any descendants of Isabella b1904, Aaron 1908, Catherine 1912 and Adeline 1916. and also anyone connected to W Ashcroft Motor Haulage Armstrong Road Bensham.

In particular Aaron Ashcroft b1908.Gateshead.

They were my Granddads step siblings. Elizabeth Ann married Francis McGurk in 1918.

Parents of the Ashcroft kids, Aaron Ashcroft b1883 and Elizabeth Ann Bell b 1888 married 26th July 1903 according to Aaron b1883 Military records.(Gateshead Registry Office but cant find marriage. She would have been 14 if date correct)

I was told a sibling was called John/Jack/Jackie Ashcroft but no birth for him so have a feeling Aaron changed his name to John/Jackie after 1921.

John/Jackie was perhaps a Policeman in London or Liverpool. Married with two kids.

In 1921 census, My Francis McGurk was living with Elizabeth Ann and step children, Isabella, Arron, Catherine and Adeline Ashcroft at 22 Rabbit bank Road Gateshead (where my Granddad was born in 1922) and Francis McGurk worked as a Labourer for W ASHCROFT Motor Haulage.

Just trying to put some puzzle pieces together as always.

Thanks.

Hi Davie, Im here, somewhere- sane today well a little more than normal!

Family still at Englishton Muir, wow.. I think there may have been a couple of Fraser families living there at the time my Frasers were there and more than likely related I would say.

I havent any notes in front of me at the moment (havent searched since last year, 3 kids keep me more than busy) but more than interested on what you know and a photo of Englishton Muir as its my Gran who was the Fraser though the family had left Inverness long before she was born.

The Lady knows who her Mother was, so correct, Elizabeth not her Mother and Myles died well before she was born so he is not the Father.

Patrick Southern/Sothern is the name given to this Lady by her Mother but doesnt appear to be anything on him.

Who ever he was, he must somehow be connected through my Great Gran Elizabeth Ann BELL-Ashcroft-McGurk-Sothern as the surname Sothern at this point is only connected to me via my Great Grans 3rd Husband, marriage only, no DNA link as no children with him.

Hopefully I solve it one day.

All I have on him Im afraid.

Its a bit of a long convoluted story really but basically someone contacted me a while ago and her DNA puts her to a 1-2nd Cousin to my Mum and 2-3rd with myself.

She didnt know her Father, only a name, Patrick 'Paddy' Southern/Sothern. She was adopted at birth, no Fathers name on certificate, just what she was told. She has been searching for years to find who he was, then we came up with close DNA to my Mum and myself. The Lady actually looks like my Mum! First breakthrough in years.

My Great Gran married a Sothern, but as far as I know had no children with him so the Surname Sothern, have no DNA connection to my Family.

Her DNA matches are from my Granddads side so my Great Gran who married a Sothern. They actually lived Newcastle Upon Tyne. Just bizarre that the name Sothern came up but at this point no DNA connection to Sothern on my side.

Elizabeth had from 1st marriage Ashcroft children, then my Granddad, McGurk (he never knew his Mum) then she raised sisters children Clarkson, married 3rd Husband Sothern, no children. So, Im wondering if one of them gave a false name on meeting this Ladies Mum as he was already married, Ladies Mum was unaware at the time until she fell pregnant thats apparently why he took off to Liverpool.

Also her husband, Myles Sothern couldnt be the Father to this Lady as he died well prior to her Birth.

Just was hoping somehow to find some Special Constable listing perhaps as she was told he was in Hastings then went to Liverpool apparently c1948.

I know its a bit of a needle in a haystack but you never know and yep, long and convoluted surrounding my Great Gran lol.

Sussex / Special Constables Hastings

Is there anywhere you can look up listings of Special Constables in Hastings.

Searching for a Patrick Sothern/Southern b about 1910 give or take 5 years possibly originally from Newcastle Upon Tyne.

Was married, unsure who to and possibly had two children. Lets just say he was living a bit of a double life.

Was in Hastings c1945-49 then left to be either a Special Constable or Policeman in Liverpool c1948-49.

Just cant find anything on this fella. Hes a missing puzzel piece to connect my Family (dna) to a Lady. Was hoping to find something on him as a Special Constable to work backwards.
