I checked PRONI Historical Maps, (free to view on line).  The OSNI Historical Third Edition (1900-1907) gives the name of the original chapel as St. Mary’s R.C. Chapel.  The foundations of the original Chapel of St. Mary’s are still visible in the graveyard. Hopefully a photograph or illustration of St. Mary’s the original  Chapel will turn up.

The will of William Mc Mullan is recorded in the PRONI Wills Calendar No. 999 under the surname spelt McMullin.  It lists all the children except Thomas.  It also names a Patrick that I have been unable to find any other record for.  Unless Thomas and Patrick are the same person using a second or pet name.

Apologies I’m not making this very clear.  My confusion is regarding the name of the Chapel in Moneyglass. The civil records for the marriage of Thomas McMullan (1915) record the chapel as St Mary’s Moneyglass when in fact the current name is Our Lady of Lourdes, Moneyglass.  Was there a name change?

The RC chapel in Toome was only built in the 1960,s so I guess that answers that question.

Thanks very much for that.  Do you know, does that mean they were married in the RC Church in Toome or the Chaple at Moneyglass?

It’s been quite a while since I visited this.  Gaffy if you see this, what was the source of the transcript of William McMullan and Catherine Devlin marriage.  How did you access the source naming their children?  I have been unable to find them in the civil registrations.  Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Given your mention of Rose Devlin (as a witness to Lizzie McMullan's 1900 marriage), I  briefly rooted around for a McMullan-Devlin angle and in so doing happened upon a transcript of a marriage for a William McMullan and a Catherine Devlin in 1856 in Duneane RC church. This couple went on to have children baptised in Duneane RC parish: Thomas bap. 1857, John bap. 1864, James bap. 1866, Nathaniel bap. 1869, William bap. 1871
, and Elizabeth bap. 1874 - I struggled to find any associated civil birth registrations, maybe someone else with fresher eyes can.

But the only reason I mention this at all is that the stated address in the last two baptismal records (William in 1871 and Elizabeth in 1874) was the townland of Muckrim, which borders Millquarter...

Do you think this is a possibility?

I have just obtained a copy of the church marriage records for Elizabeth ( Lizzie) McMullan to John Murray.  It states that Elizabeth’s mother’s name is Catherine nee Devlin.  This means that  gaffe was correct from the start. I am now finally sure I am at last on the correct course. Thanks again gaffe and all.

I've just found the marriage record for Michael McMullan and Rose McNeill.  I think this is what I'm looking for.  If it turns out that Rose is named on Mary and Lizzies birth records then bingo.
