Thanks folks, the plot thickens.

I looked up James in the post office directory (thanks for the link - I'm new at this and hadn't thought to look there).  James address is listed as:

Hogg, Jas., Kirkhill Colliery ; ho,
  Hayden Villn, Hamilton drive

This is cool, because I suspected he was the manager at the Kirkhill Colliery - would a colliery manager live in such a house?  His father was also a colliery manager in Forth, and the home still exists (I have a photo) and it looks to be quite a nice place (for the time, mid-1840's).

Humm....

Lanarkshire / Help with Cambuslang Place Name - 1890's
« on: Wednesday 06 February 13 02:35 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

Looking for some clarification on the addresses listed for my 3rd and 4th great grandfathers, James and his son William Hogg.  James was a Colliery Manager in Cambuslang area for 20+ years.

In the 1901 census and on James's marriage certificate their address is listed at Hamilton Dr. Glynidd.

I see that Hamilton Dr. is a short street near Cambuslang Institute, but can find no mention anywhere of "Glynidd"  Does anyone have any ideas what/where this might refer too?

Thanks in advance for any insight you may be able to provide.

Hello,

Looking for birth date for Mary Agnus Bradley birth date around Nov 1880 Thomastown Kilkenny.  Parent's listed as Micael Bradley, mother Anastacia O'Neal, no other information for them.  She emigrated to Canada around 1910, but I was told she travelled back a few times after then.

Kind Regards

Got Williams death record.  James Hogg, Jane Baird listed as parents.

Found two hits for Jane (Jean) Baird that could be matches.  Used both birth dates to try to pull death records with no luck.

Found death record for James that you referenced, but spouse is listed as Elizabeth Russell (Bethia???) Everything else on record seems to match him.

What happened to Jane Baird????

Sancti, interesting.   I have James mother listed as McLeod in my tree (this info was given to me by a cousin, have not confirmed myself).  I have William's probate record - so does not list parents name.  I tried to get death vert via parish where I believed William to have been buried (Forth, Lanark)- but apparently fire destroyed all records.  I will try Scotspeople next.

Thanks All,

Ev, That link to the 1841 appears to be his household.  My 3rd great grandfather was his son William, and have not as of yet investigated his son James's line.  I will have to do some more looking into that 1851 census, I must have the wrong household if as you say upon his death his spouse is listed as Jane Baird.

I have not been able to locate a death record. Can you point me in the right direction.  I have searched via ancestry.com and familysearch.com  with no luck yet.

Sancti, I saw those articles too and have had contact with members of the Hogg family you have mentioned - but there doesn't appear to be a link between the families.  That James Hogg is approx. 10 years older than "mine".

Kind Regards.

Lanarkshire / Searching for marriage record(s) James HOGG b.1789 Faskine

Hello All,

Hoping to clear up some confusion I have with this record of my 4th great grandfather James Hogg.

I am looking to confirm marriage record(s) for James HOGG born 1789 in Faskine.

In 1851 census he is listed as a boatbuilder/journeyman married to Jane (Jean) Hogg who records indicate was born in Glasgow abt 1787.

I can find no records of them in the 1841 census.

In 1861 James is listed as being married to a Bethia Hogg and they are listed as living at the Faskine Boathouse (he is now listed as a carpenter).

I can find no marriage records for either.

Any help and/or direction would be appreciated.

Kind Regards,
