Descendants of Alexander McLean b:1821

Generation No 1 & 2:

Alexander McLean b: 1821

Alexander was born in Little Dunkeld, Scotland in 1821. Alexander departed for Australia on the Utopia which sailed from Liverpool on 3/11/1853 and arrived in Portland on the 27/1/1854.
Alexander (1821) was married three times, his daughter from the third marriage, married a descendant of Alexander (c 1765) thus uniting both families.

A detailed list of Alexander's descendants follows:-

(1) 22 Nov 1847, in Crossgates, Leith South, Midlothian, Edinburgh, Janet (June) Martin, b. 5 Oct 1819, Kirkintillock, Dunbarton, Scotland, (daughter of Robert Martin and Agnes Aikin) d. 1854, Portland (died from dysentry), (2nd Marriage) 3 Oct 1854, in Portland, Janet Davidson, b. 1829, Glascow, Lanark, Scotland, (daughter of George Davidson and Annie Woodrow) occupation: Domestic, d. 2 Jul 1866, Spring Creek (Beechworth area), buried: 3 Jul 1866, Beechworth Cemetry: Pres sec No:3, (3rd Marriage) 16 Sep 1868, in Beechworth, Victoria, Harriett Hornby, b. 8 May 1839, Liverpool (36 Old Hall St.), England, bapt. 12-June-1839, Liverpool (St Nicolas Church), England, (daughter of James Hornby and Elizabeth late Rathbone formerly Owen) d. 12 Dec 1907, Collingwood, buried: 13 Dec 1907, Boroondara Cemetry: Presb Sec B Gr:3140. Alexander died 17 Dec 1909, Burnley (68 Gibbon St.), buried: 18 Dec 1909, Boroondara Cemetry: Pres.Sect B Gr:3140.
Alexanders wife and their two youngest children. Catherine and Robert, died in Portland soon after their arrival,( it appears that their eldest child may have remained in Scotland, he married Janet Davidson wife number two of three) in Portland during 1854. Janet also a passenger on the Utopia, was initially employed by a Doctor Greig of Portland.
Janet arrived in Portland aboard the same boat as Alexander McLean and his family on the 23 January 1854. The Utopia sailed from Liverpool on 3/11/1853 Shipping documents indicate that Janet was with a group of "domestic servants" and that she was engaged by a Dr Grier for a period of six months. This evidence suggests that is very likely that Alexander met Janet at least 12 months before their marriage in October 1854.
Current research indicates that Harriett Hornby was a passenger on the Golden Era, which arrived in Australia, June 1854. Harriett was shown as being 13 years of age which is within two years of my record of birth yet the date of arrival matches the "Time in Victoria" i.e 52 years in 1907 shown on her death certificate. I suspect that the age should read 15.
Children by Janet (June) Martin:
i Alexander McLean b. 6 Aug 1848.

The marriage certificate of James Walker (my gggf) from 1855 records that he was living in the parish of Govan in Glasgow, and was the son of William Walker, a manufacturer.

James was born in Paisley (Renfrewshire) in 1826.

I would really appreciate it, if somebody could look up the family in the 1841 and 1851 censuses.

Here are the names and ages (in 1841) of the family members that I have been able to identify:

William Walker, manufacturer
Margaret (nee Cross)
Margaret, 18
Andrew, 16 – married Isabella Reid in 1849, became a dyer and skinner
James, 14
Isabella, 12
Elizabeth, 10

The children were all born in Paisley.

Many thanks,

Justin

Thanks aghadowey for the previous posts.

Lachlan2 it seems like from an older post you already know the parents of James Ernest Pearce, any reason you are asking for the info again?

Sharon

There was a fire at my home and I lost all the record's that I had and I had to re-place the computer that had all the information and paper work. I lost everything. so i am starting all over again. That why I need to know. I was going by what I remember and hoped I was right. I don't remember what date he was born and if he had any brother's or sister's & when he was married & I don't remember his parent's name's was when they got married and how many brother's & sister's but I do remember he came from Porlock in England.
