Shropshire / Parish records for Wagbeach area
« on: Sunday 01 October 23 13:13 BST (UK)  »
I'm researching a Purslow family name, mainly in the 1800s. They lived in or near Wagbeach in Shropshire, nearest town appears to be Minsterley, nearest church possibly Snailbeach.
I can't find any baptism or burial records online for this family, or indeed parish records around that area. Does anyone know where I can look next please?

Have you tried ringing the church to check availability?

Phone: 07928 335608

Thank you but that is a different church

Would anyone know if I can view records from Chester st Congregational Church, Wrexham. I’m looking for baptisms around 1870s to 1890s

I’ve also looked at his siblings, and certainly there are excellent candidates for the younger ones. His elder sister Elizabeth is a little more problematic – there is a candidate registration in Q1 1839.

John and Martha married February 1839
Betsy (with correct parents) baptised June 1839

So for this to be the correct birth registration ELizabeth would have been born very close to the marriage but then not baptised for several months.
I believe that to be the correct registration, I have Elizabeth baptised 5th April 1839 in Prees to John and Martha Hinton, father John a butcher. I've believed the baptism you mention is the same child, baptised once in her mother's church in Prees and then in her father's in Ightfield. These are the villages they lived in when married.

It seems all the children were registered bar Dicken. The unusual christian name was the maiden name of his father's grandmother

Shropshire / Dicken Hinton

Good morning, I have decided for good practice to try and gather together a birth, marriage and death cert for my direct ancestors. Some I have and some others have kindly shared with me. My Gt Gt Grandfather was Dicken Hinton and I have a mar and death cert but no birth cert, and I just can't find the registration. He's fairly easy to search with the first and surname combination (although sometimes transcribed as Dickon or Dickin) in fact I've never come across another Dicken Hinton apart from mine.
He was baptised 02 May 1842 in Ightfield Shropshire, to parents John Hinton and Martha nee Darlington.
His ages on census are
1851 - 8
1861 - 19
1871 - 28
1881 - 38
1891 - 49
1901 - 58
1911 - 69
He died 20 Jan 1920 aged 78 on the death cert
his siblings were mainly registered in Wem and Whitchurch
I have searched the years either side of 1842 but I just can't find him

I have asked this question on a facebook group but still not found him

thank you for reading

add - looks as if they're in Ruthin but you say that they don't have them  ???

They said that they didn't have any baptism records, I think these are minutes from Church meetings maybe?

Good Morning

I'm researching a family including a Robert Roberts born 1894, he states Presbyterian in his WW1 sign up papers and he married in the Presbyterian church on King Street in 1917 (also from WW1 records)

I can't find a baptism record for him or his siblings and not sure where to start looking for Presbyterian records from that time, if there are any. I have contacted NEWA but they don't have them in Ruthin

Thanks for any help

Denbighshire Lookup Requests / Re: 1841 Census Wrexham lookup please
« on: Saturday 11 March 23 09:26 GMT (UK)  »
Sorry about that.

I've now gone through the whole of the available Wrexham 1841 checking on those names  via the index and then searched for the listed address number by cross checking, but none came up. They must have been in the surrounding area.  (It's not like a usual census listing )

You might have to get Margaret's birth cert.

There were many John and  Elizabeth Roberts in Wrexham and their age wasn't given in the index.

Thank you again for your help
