Cambridgeshire Lookup Requests / Re: KING- Melbourn
« on: Sunday 26 September 10 13:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi folks

If it's any help I've just received a copy of the Robert King baptism from the same nice lady at the record office. It's very poor quality and as someone else has mentioned, it all seems to be random rather than in neat chronological order.
There seem to be some very strange entries regarding the children of Robert King and Mary. There are baptisms of Mary and John on 11th August 1792, with birthdates 15th Jan 1789 and 23rd June 1790 respectively. Then there is a note of Lydia, born 30th October 1793, but no baptism. These records seem to be on a separate piece of paper insterted into the parish register. I also have a copy of the other baptisms mentioned earlier which took place on 6th Jan 1805, including John and Lydia, but with different birth dates! No mention of Mary, so maybe she died. All a bit wierd.

No luck with finding Mary's burial either or Robert's marriage to Elizabeth.

Thanks for the follow-up. Having the 1851 on ancestry.com now, I have been able to track down the children, but still no sign of William so I'm at a bit of a dead end I'm afraid.
Thnaks for asking

Does anyone have the 1851 census index?  ???

I have 2 William Gibbons, born in St. Mary Bourne in 1808 and 1809. I believe one was living in Kimpton or Hurstbourne Priors at the time, but the other one (mine!) has disappeared!!
The clues may lie in the children, all born in Longparish. I know that the first child, Eliza (b. 1830)  had the misfortune to be living at the Andover Workhouse in 1851, but I have been unable to find William (a widower) or any of the others.
Details would be
William Gibbons aged about 49
George, about 20
Charlotte, about 17
Mary Ann, about 15

They did not live in Longparish, as I have checked that.

Many thanks to anyone who may be able to help

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / Re: 1841 Lookup request - AYRES Leatherhead
« on: Tuesday 09 August 05 17:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi Jenny

The Surrey Burial Index definitely has a Henry Roberts buried in Leatherhead in 1841, aged 37. Unfortunately it only gives the year, not the actual date.

Found then in 1841 census:

HO107/1070/12 page 26
Leatherhead Common

Henry Roberts, 37, Bricklayer
Martha, 36
Ann, 15
George, 15
John, 13
Martha, 11
Elizabeth, 8
Caroline, 5
Henry, 1

Also living with them were :
John Roberts, 70, Bricklayer
Ann Roberts, 80

Assume these were Henry's parents?
NB there was a John Roberts buried in Leatherhead in 1843, aged 75 (bear in mind that ages were supposedly rounded down in the 1841 census to the nearest multiple of 5 years, so John could have been anywhere between 70 and 74.). No entry for Ann.

As regards Ayres I found the following:

William, 45
William, 15
David, 5

and living elsewhere in Leatherhead:
Charles, 15

Also found Hannah Ayres buried in Leatherhead on 16th Feb 1840, aged 40.

This doesn't tie in with William born 1777 in Oxfordshire as it is stated "born in county (ie Surrey), and indicates a d.o.b of around 1791-1796, but some of the children and their ages do fit in.

Anyway, hope this helps!!

Best wishes
Stuart

Hampshire & IOW Completed Lookup Requests / Re: 1841 Census - Curtis of Old Basing?
« on: Thursday 04 August 05 17:58 BST (UK)  »
Hi James

Unfortunately the 1841 of Overton is mostly very faded and much of it is illegible (I always seem to be saying this, but it's true!!)

I did however manage to find Elizabeth Curtis, aged 20, female servant, to one John Jaques , aged 75, Independent (ie living off his own means). n 1841 the ages were rounded down to the nearest 5, so 20 could be 20-24, which looks hopeful!

Unfortunately if her parents were still around, they were lost in the faded bits!!

Hope this helps a bit!

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Re: 1841 or 1851 Census TANNER at Linford
« on: Thursday 04 August 05 08:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Regret that much of the 1841 for Ringwood is so badly faded as to be impossible to read. There were Tanner families in the area but couldn't find yours unfortunately. Also looked at Linford, but nothing there. Afraid I don't have 1851

Sorry couldn't be of more help!

Stuart

Hi James
Had a look at 1841 of Basing, but no Curtis family there I'm afraid....lots of Brookers though.
Where did they get married? This might help track them down

Hampshire & IOW Completed Lookup Requests / Re: 1841 Census - Brookers of Overton
« on: Thursday 28 July 05 19:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi James

the 1841 of Overton is pretty awful to read ........very faded. However managed to find:
HO107/392/19 Page 6
Winchester Street, Overton

James Brooker, 55
Martha, 55
Martha, 30
Sarah, 25
Charlotte, 20
Mary (?Amy), 20

Looked on a bit to find George Brooker, 25, ag lab in Quidhampton, just outside Overton.
1841 does not give place of birth only "born in county-Yes or No". All were "yes" in this case. Also ages were rounded down to the nearest 5 years, which implies that James and Martha were actually between 55 and 60, although very often ages can be taken with a large pinch of salt!!

Hope this helps

Stuart
