Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / Help with Trealaw Headstone photo
« on: Friday 04 April 14 03:12 BST (UK)  »
I’m seeking assistance with getting a photograph of a headstone at Trealaw Cemetery. Baby William O’Brien, is buried with his grandparents, John and Elizabeth Tilbury. The Tilbury’s also happen to be the grandparents of former Speaker, George Thomas, The Viscount Tonypandy.  William’s parents, Charles O’Brien and Ada Tilbury immigrated to Canada not long after his death.

I visited Trealaw many years ago and was not aware of his burial there until recently. Below is the plot – I687

15479 O'BRIEN, WILLIAM JOHN 11 MONTHS, plot: I687 d:1906
32522 TILBURY, JOHN 77 YEARS, plot: I687 d:1923
18784 TILBURY, ELIZABETH 64 YEARS plot: I687 d:1909

Any help with photos would be very much appreciated. I hope to hear from you.

Cheers, Jim O’Brien

Thanks for looking! The first Michael you've listed is my great-great grandfather. The thing is, the list I have for Trealaw doesn't show any burial earlier than 1898, but they started earlier. I'm wondering if there are missing years?

Hello. I need some help locating Michael Joseph O'Brien that I believe was buried at Trealaw/Llethrddu Cemetery. His parents, Michael and Catherine O'Brien, were living in Tonypandy between 1890-1905. Michael, the father, is buried at Trealaw (died 1904).

The child, Michael Joseph was born 28 Sept. 1890 in Tonypandy, and Died 29 April 1891 in Tonypandy. The family was Catholic. I have a list of O'Brien burials at Trealaw but he is not listed among them and I've noticed that there aren't any with dates earlier than 1894. Something seems wrong with that as I am told burials started there in 1882.

The family moved to Tonypandy from Hopkinstown about 1889. I have also been unable to locate the burial of another of their sons with the same name, Michael Joseph O'Brien, who was born on 23 Sept 1874, with the address of Gyfeillion, Llantrisant. He does not appear with the family by the 1881 census where they are residing in Hopkinstown. His burial is unknown.

I was able to locate their children, Patrick Lee O'Brien, died 1879, buried at St. Gwynno Church, and Thomas David, died 1894, buried at St. David's in Hopkinstown.

Any help or suggestions is much appreciated. Jim O'Brien
