Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Re: Frederick Dainton Tunbridge Wells
« on: Friday 11 December 15 01:56 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you, for your help! Frederick is my paternal ggrandfather. He and his wife Caroline are buried in St. Peter's Church, Southborough. If you were doing your research through ancestry it is likely my family tree you referenced (Dainton/Sancaster). My grandfather was his son Robert. From what I understand the Daintons apparently ran a coach service, ferrying "upper class folks" to their summer residences. I'm not sure if this is true, and if so, whether or not they owned the coach.  I do believe they must have been reasonably comfortable as there are a number of portraits in the family which suggests some disposable income. I will message you with my email address if I can figure out how :-) I'm new to rootschat.  Pat Green

Caz, the Roses show up predominately in my family.  My ggaunt, Jane Rideout Wareham married John Rose (both born SN) and Ellen, one of the Dainton sisters (Caroline Rideout's sister-in-law), married a Rose but he was from Sussex. Eventually that line ended up in Saskatchewan, Canada. There are so many branches of these families it took me while to sort them all out. Thanks, again, for your input.

I understand the concern of the contributors to this topic. However, another viewpoint is that I do not have a problem sharing my research. While it may cost me in actual dollars or time, I consider the point of it is to keep the family history alive for future generations who may be interested. I do strive to keep currently living family members private by not including their names, but the reality is the information is out there - anyone searching an obituary notice, for example, will find a list of relationships.  I am selective about what information I add to my tree, although I do find mistakes even then. It's all part of the process. Through Ancestry, I have made contact with new cousins in different parts of Canada and in England.  Some of them are now considered "friends" so an unexpected bonus. We have shared information and photos so the experience is very positive overall.

Here is the picture with identification on bottom. The card stock is a light brown colour (like a large envelope) with a lighter band across the bottom with the photographer ID. Thanks.

Thank you for the clarification, Caroline!  My Caroline Louisa Rideout (my ggggrandmother) was from Sturminster Newton, Dorset and married Frederick John Dainton on 27 Apr 1880.

Thank you for your help but I admit I am a little confused. I'm fairly new to RootsChat.  Are you saying the photo was printed in 1870s but is a reprint of an earlier dated photo or rather it is an 1870s photo where more than one copy was made?  Pat

Looking for dating of this photo. Glued to card stock with "Edwin Skinner" on left hand side, "47, Good Station Road, Tunbridge Wells" on right hand side. I believe it to be of Frederick John Dainton, 1859-1929 and assume it is in front of a home in Tundridge Wells.

Alfred Dainton was my great uncle and is the gentleman on the right hand side of the photo. The other gentlemen are Dan Godley and David Lyon (their names are written on the back). I don't know which is which. I am posting in the event someone from either family is interested in seeing it. If you can identify one of the subjects please let me know which one for my records. Thanks.
