Per Lancs BMD it looks like Mary Kelly's maiden name was McKey or McKay. There's a possible marriage in Preston in 1854: John Kelly/ Mary MacKay (Preston Register Office or Registrar Attended).

how did you figure out thats the right Mary?  I only ask because i can't find any records that link "Mary Kelly" to specifically "Mary McKey/Mckay/Mackay" vs any number of "Mary so and so's" that John could have married. ( I'm still fairly new (less than 1 year) to genealogy and i'm still learning the process of elimination game)

Thanks!

i was wondering if maybe i could get a little guidance of where to go from here as i have hit a wall.

I have been able to find my family back to my 2nd great grandfather John Broughton (born 1859 in England) who married (feb 15 1880 Habergham Eaves, Lancashire, England at the Church of the Holy Trinity) Mary Ellen Kelly (born 1861 England). They had 3 children (George born 1883 England, Frederick born 1892 Burnley Lancashire England, and Herbert Born 1897 Burnley Lancashire England).
I have a scan of the 1916 Calgary Alberta Census to Confirm and it also shows that George emigrated with his wife Winnie in 1907 and everyone else came in 1909.
I Believe John's father was named George and Mary Ellen's Father is named John (thru marriage info) but i have been unable to figure out how to find out any other info nor how to proceed. i have 0 money i can spend (makes this especially tough) but i could really use a guiding hand.

I hope i posted this properly and i appreciate any and all help. Maybe the tree will help tie in someone else's loose ends too!
