Have you tried the 1840 birth registrations?  FreeBMD shows Mar 1840 for George, in York 23/664.  In June for George, in Manchester 20/544.  Not in Freebmd yet is Sep 1840 for George, in Doncaster 22/84.  In Dec 1840, for George-Ambler in Hull, 22/illegible!

I don't have any other ideas for you. :(

Looks like a match for your IGI reference.  The birth registration reference for Matilda is Sep 1839, Rotherham, Vol 22, Pg 453 (possibly 455 as the last digit is slightly muddy).
