Hi

I know its been a while but there is a map showing Lister's Yard here with info on Cholera outbreaks in 1853.

www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/NBL/Cholera/

Listers Yard is across the High Street from Nelson street.

Hi again

Could anyone tell me what a Brace Maker would make, my ancestor made them in 1830's - 40's Hackney and Bethnal Green areas.

Couldn't be the obvious and belts were invented later!!! could it/

Thanks

hi

So far the only Bones i can find in the booklet of the 1851 census living in Listers Yard are:

Lydia aged 53
Jon. aged 30
George aged 18

I only have 1 booklet for Gateshead but there are two others, the 1851 and 1891 census are in booklets for Northumberland and Durham published by the N and D family history society.  Maps for the Gateshead area are at Gateshead Central Library.

It mat be worth trying ancestry.co.uk as they have the census from 1861 onwards, worth spending £6.99 to use for a while

PS

The site of the pub is literally in the middle of the road on the photograph as the original Nelson Street went around to the left once past the dispensary.

Hi

I just asked my mother about the Nelson Inn and she remembers it as being the Nelson it could be the one that appears on the map(1914) diagonally across the road from the dispensary(photos above).  It may have been there until the 50s or early 60s when the area was redeveloped.

The only Globe I know is on Old Durham Road, it is still there it is near Gateshead cemetery the block of houses it is on is quite old and may have stone marked Chatham Terrace.  Many places were known by the name on the block of houses rather than the road name.   The buildings date from about 1850.

hope this is of some use
