Kent / Re: Emily Ann Martin of Greenwich, where did she go after 1861 census

Wow, you are finding some interesting information.
I had noticed that Emily Ann was born before marriage of James and Frances so was unsure if she was illegitimate daughter of Frances and James or product of a previous marriage. Your data clears up that query.
My James William Martin born 1837 Greenwich was married in Australia in 1865, can find no record of how or when he got there to substantiate who he was. His marriage and death records shed no light on it either.

AMBLY
Many thanks for all that information. You have surprised me with the information that James William Martin died at the age of 7 years old. I have him living and dying in Australia with a large family.
I obviously have been following the wrong James William Martin born in Greenwich in 1837.

Hello,

Yes that is Alice her daughter living with father in 1871.
The death recorded in 1887 in Croydon is of Benjamin Holmans wife Sarah Ann Poole. Sarah Ann was married and living with him in 1851 at address that Alice Hare was born at.
Benjamin and Emily Ann never married.
The other mystery I have upon closer inspection is that Emily Ann Martin is showing up on 1841 census at age 7, birth circa 1834.  But church records show her born in 1843 with baptism in 1844.
Hoping this is just a transcription error but cant see an image for original document.

Kent / Emily Ann Martin of Greenwich, where did she go after 1861 census

Hello all,

Hoping for a bit of help trying to track down Emily Ann Martin, born Greenwich circa 1834.
She is the grandmother of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. She had an illegitimate child with Benjamin Holmans in 1856. This child, Alice Hare Martin was visiting her working in Cantebury St Margaret at time of 1861 census. I can find no further mention of her anywhere.  :D :D

London and Middlesex / Re: What happened to Mary Ann Purchall christened 1800 Poplar

Hello,

Had a go at GRO Index and had no luck with Mary Ann Adshead born 1838, not my Mary Ann's child.
The death of Mary Ann in 1839 turned out to be neither of them. Now I am more curious, what has happened to Mary Ann and Thomas Adshead after marriage

Hi,
Thanks for that information, will try GRO Index. Have found a potential child, Mary Ann Adshead born 1838 in Whitechapel.  There is also a death of Mary Ann Adshead Dec Qtr 1839 in Whitechapel and not sure if this is mother or child. I had assumed it was Mary Ann Adshead nee Purchall as I couldnt find any record of her in 1841 census but then I cant find the one born in 1838 either. Family search doesnt give parents names on birth registration so no luck there.
Will wait for GRO certificate to arrive and keep fingers crossed that she is connected.

Hello everyone,
It has been awhile since I posted this query and have to admit that thanks to other members I now know that Mary Ann married Thomas Adshead in 1822 at St Stephens, Walbrook.  Also that she died in 1839 and Thomas in 1840. Because they both died before the 1841 census it has been difficultto see if there eree any children from this marriage before they died. Does anyone have any suggestions,  Katlady
