Hi Hampton
Good to hear from you. Yes Thomas Taylor born abt 1821 was my ggg grandfather. I traced the Taylor tree back to him but when I ordered Thomas' marriage certificate it was a bit of a shock. In 1845 Thomas married Martha Knowles but the certificate states that Thomas' father was named Henry Wardle - a silk manufacturer. Seems like Thomas was illegitimate I think his mother may have been named Hannah Taylor.  Only Henry Wardle I can find in the Macclesfield area about then later went on to be Lord Mayor of Macclesfield. I am descended from Thomas's son Alfred b. 1850 and his son Alfred b. 1880 and my own grandfather Frederick Taylor was born 1901.  Let me know where you fit in?

Hi Cheshiremog

Thank you for the information that you have shared with me.  It is all very interesting.
I am also descended from Thomas' son Alfred b 1850 and his daughter Annie born 1875. Annie Taylor married William Oldham in 1896.  Their son Ernest Oldham b 1903 is my grandfather.
My dad asked me to do some research into his family and I am really enjoying the process.  But finding your post was the most exciting thing so far! I did not expect that. Thanks again.

Does anyone know about the history of these buildings or about the Okell family who I assume the buildings were named after?
My ggg grandfather lived there in 1851, he was a hand loom weaver silk and also an undertaker - would love to know more about the street

Hi Cheshiremog

My father asked me to research his family who are originally from Macclesfield, Cheshire.  I was doing a google search on the Okells Buildings as that is where my ggg grandfather lived.  Your post came up - I couldn't believe it when I saw that you were also researching Thomas Taylor, undertaker/hand loom weaver! I know you posted a while a go but I just had to join rootschat.com and get in touch with you!  I hope you don't mind  :)
