Down / Re: Ambrose/Glass
« on: Sunday 17 February 08 09:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Christopher
Thanks so much for your reply. We believe that the Ambrose family would be prestpertarian (allthough we have no definite proof) but the descendant son Thomas (b 1823 who came to Scotland and married in 1847) was of the prestpertarian/Protestant faith.

We visited Irelend in 2005 and did a personal trace in Belfast records office and found what we believed to be William Ambrose birth record (again not confirmed) for 1800 in Portaferry.

Whilst in Ireland we stayed in Newtonards and there certainly were families still living there with the surname of Ambrose but we had nothing to link this with our Ambrose.

We hope to visit Ireland again next year and do some more research and hopefully find more information. Any guidance you can offer will be gratefully received.

Thanks again
Anne

Hi Bobed
Thanks for your reply. I am assuming that the Public Records Office will be in Belfast is that right.
I am allready subscribed to the COARA Site and have found them helpful in the past so I will post my inquiry on that site as well.
Once again many thanks

Down / Where to Start
« on: Saturday 01 October 05 14:16 BST (UK)  »
We will be visiting Co.Down in November to do some research on the family name of Ambrose.
We have the dates of birth of 5 children born in Kircubbin between 1816+1825 to a William Ambrose and Jane Glass.
We have booked accomodation in Newtonards and plan to stay in the area for about 4 days.
Where do we start?? Do we start in Kircubbin looking at parish records?? or will these be listed in a Government type building somewhere else?? where are records more lokely to be kept??
Any help or guidience will be greatfully appreciated.

Hi Elaine
I also have not been able to link in with your Alexander but that does not mean anything as my family grows by the day. I will certainly keep your query in mind and if anything comes to light I will pass it on to you.

Good evening
The family mentioned by Rose are my husbands family and we are currently researching them.
Can I first of all say a big thanks to Rose as we have gained information that we did not have.
The Samual Dalziel and Elizabeth mentioned in your 1851 census records are my husbands ggg grandparents. My mother in Law Margeret Elizabeth Dalziel b 1923 is a direct decendant of this couple through their son Andrew b abt 1845 in Whithorn. This is the Andrew in the 1851 census that is down as a 7 yr old.
Any contact will be appreciated.

Hi Chris
Thanks for your mail. I am sure somewhere down the line we will find a link as almost all of my Morrisons were born in Gamrie. However at this moment in time all I know is my first James Morrison was born in Banff abt 1735 m Margeret Brebner in abt 1760 and had at least 8 children between 1761 and 1777
Childrens names were James b 1761, John b 1762, George b abt 1764, Jean b abt 1768, Peter b abt 1770, Elspet b abt 1772, William b abt 1774, Thomas b abt 1777.
It is from John b 1762 that is my direct link.
I am aware that all of the above children were born in Gamrie Banff and that John d 1839 at cross slacks croft in Gamrie.
I do have a fair bit of information from there on in down to today but my biggest stumbling block is I cannot find anything at all about my first James b 1735. It is as if he just appeared from out of space.
I do remember my father once mentioning the Black Isles which I think is in Ross and Cromoty in the highlands but I cannot follow this without something more concrete. So brick wall it is unless????????
