Rutland Lookup Requests / Re: Oakham marriage look up Please
« on: Tuesday 19 February 13 15:03 GMT (UK)  »
Dear John

I am helping the granddaughter of Benajmin Stimpson (b1882 in Cardiff) trace his father who we believe was Thomas Stimpson (b1846 in Rutland). Her father was Emil Leo Stimpson (b1907 in Cardiff).

Best wishes

Rodney

On Thomas's marriage certificate his father is William Stimson, Farm Labourer.
I have always thought the 1851 census you mention may be the wrong family as William's occupation differs and there is no sign of a Thomas.
But on the other hand, the parents names and area do match up, very confusing.

Is the marriage certificate of Thomas and catherine ward in Cardiff in 1868. If so I would be grateful for their addresses and the names of the witnesses.

Many thanks

Channel Islands Lookup Requests / George Regan in Jersey c 1838
« on: Sunday 09 December 12 15:07 GMT (UK)  »
I would really appreciate some help tracing the family of my great grandfather George Regan.

He was married in Liverpool in 1869 to Ellen Doyley and his father is entered as James Regan, ropemaker. George's address was in Liverpool.

In 1893 he signs on for a 2 year voyage on the Evesham Abbey at Liverpool and he puts his age as 54 and birthplace as Jersey.

He returns to Liverpool in 1895 and dies that year, with the age given as 57.

He does not appear in any census - probably as he was at sea in 1871-1891. Nor any of the early seaman's records on findmypast.

I am wondering if the surname was Regan - or some form of it Rigan/Rogon/Riggon.

I could not find any ropemakers in the 1841 Jersey census named James with a son George but his father may have died by then.

Any help on any parish records in Jersey would be very useful.

Many thanks.
