It doesn't look as though William and Sarah are recorded in 1871- or if they are, they are well hidden.

You could send for those death certificates which may point to an 1871 address.

   Good idea... yes, it could be they were living with someone....thats my next step before I go further.

Jjen....yes the address was for both in Pepper st, i would think it was a lodging place then yes they are living with a relative after marriage in Bailey St,,, I like to "pack" out  information to be sure I m probably right. I could n t find them in Pepper st, but 10 years is a long time.

Thanks,, its very strange, I saw the servant one but it did not click in. They were definitely around for the wedding. The 1841... I feel confident on that one. but I wish I could fill it for definate with the in between years. .. Find it so strange,,,

I am struggling with the Staffordshire census.....1851 1861 1871  I am tracing a line for Ann Chancellor, she appears then disappears, as does her father.

Her father is William and Ann was born in Darlaston ( waiting for a certificate ) 1852. Married James Davies in Newcastle u Lyme 19 Feb 1871.. Her father was a blacksmith as was James'

I cannot get back further than the 1871 census to track the ancesters. There is a blacksmith in 1841 but cannot be sure its the right one. In 1871 they lived with a relative Bailey Street once they married.

I have tried various sites for the census, made the name varient  widened the dates to no avail. I cannot understand why I cannot find William in 1871 or 1861 then 1851  or Ann in 1861 they have to be there.... can you tell me any other ways to look up please......I m stumped and its not even close to the end of civil registration ..
