Hi everyone,
I'm new to this so bear with me.
My great grandfather was the licence at the Travellers Rest on Park Street (Next to the school) in the 1901 census. In 1911 he had left the pub and was down the pits. My Grand father told me a story in the early 1960's that he lost his licence due to a "BET". A visitor bet that he could "worry" and eat a barn rat which had been tethered to a table leg, and he would do this every night for a week. the police found out and stepped in and he lost his licence. About a month after I had been told this story it was reported in the South Yorkshire Times under the 50 years ago feature.
Has any one any details of this. i would love to include it in my family history stories.
many thanks John
