Antrim / Re: Seeking Andrew RAINEY/RENNIE, wife Agnes TAYLOR & sons

Elwin -   Thank you for your efforts on my behalf.

I have been circling this family for years with no luck, and it seems I'm not likely to get any.  I just hoped that since Andrew is not the most common of names in Ireland that someone, somewhere might have a contender in their records.

Methinks I shall head south as you have suggested ....

Thanks again,  Jan

Antrim / Seeking Andrew RAINEY/RENNIE, wife Agnes TAYLOR & sons
« on: Wednesday 25 October 17 03:51 BST (UK)  »
I am looking any information (or suggestions) regarding the ANDREW RAINEY/RENNIE family in Antrim - possibly the Portrush or Ballymoney area.  Andrew was a shoemaker and probably born about 1784. He wed AGNES TAYLOR. They were both deceased by 1858.

The children I know of were:

JAMES RENNIE b. 1804 - 1808.  Wed MARY McINTYRE/CUMMINGS.  They had George b.1835 and Mary b.1837

ANDREW RENNIE b. 1822. Wed (in Scotland) MARY JANE FORD b.Ireland

JOHN RENNIE b.1824. Wed (in Scotland) ESTHER MITCHELL b. Ireland

All three sons were residing in Renfrewshire, Scotland by 1839-1841 and I have been able to trace.
All their death records confirm their parentage.
Since there is such a time gap between the birth of James and Andrew Jr. there are most likely more siblings out there as well.

Any suggestions/ideas for the births, deaths, siblings, and residence of this family would be most appreciated.

I have an unconfirmed date of birth for Thomas Ames/Aims/Annes as 1781 in Watnall, Nottinghamshire. I am seeking any available information on his birth or parentage.

He married Sarah Banner on 31 Dec 1804 and Elizabeth Wallis on 16 July 1829, (both in Greasley) but I cannot seem to find him before that date.  He died 7 Nov 1847, also in Greasley.

I have searched the available online records (the East Midlands one seems to be down at the moment) and the CDs available for purchase only work on a PC and I am on a Mac (arrugh!) and at the end of my options.

If anyone can help I will give you my firstborn....

Good to know we share great great great great grandparents in George Cummings and Elizabeth Taylor!

RE: Their children James Cummings and Mary Cummings and David Cummings.
The spouses and children of Mary & David were all born in Ireland.  Mary and spouse James Rennie show up in Bridge of Weir in the 1841 census and never leave.  David and wife Mary Ann Irwin appear in the 1871 census and also remain in Bridge or Weir until their deaths.  It seems the son James and wife Sarah Jane McLaughlin and grandson James both lived and died in Ireland.

I am descended from George Cummings through both James and Mary.  There are records of McSkimmins in Magilligan Parish as early as the mid 1600s, so it never occurred to me the family might be originally from Scotland.  I do know the Cummings and related families in Bridge of Weir traveled back and forth to Ireland regularly until the early 1900s.

RE: George Cummings of Ballycarton and wife Elizabeth Taylor. Their issue:
   1. James Cummings, son, wed Sarah Jane McLaughlin. (Their son, James, b. ca1839 wed Elizabeth McDermott.)
   2. Mary Cummings, daughter, wed James Rennie. Lived Bridge of Weir, Kilbarchan, Scotland.
   3. David Cummings, Son, b. ca 1827, wed Mary Ann Irwin (earlier records give her name as Jane, may have been 1st wife). Lived Bridge of Weir, Kilbarchan, Scotland.

I have death certs verifying George Cummings and Elizabeth Taylor were parents of Mary Cummings and David Cummings. It was also family lore that George was in the bacon business!

If anyone can add to this, please do.
