Just found out that FindMyPast have a 10% discount offered on their website for subscriptions - this also works with partial subscriptions (ie upgrading to World).

However, you may want to take a look at this webpage for 20% off:-

The Lighter Side / Family Tree Magazine - any offers available?
« on: Sunday 30 December 12 13:36 GMT (UK)  »
Am just about to subscribe to print & digital, and based upon the fact that there's a space for offer code on the subscription form - not to mention the overwhelming success of the FindMyPast code thread, I thought I'd ask if anyone knows of any offers?

Thanks in advance.

Lincolnshire / Family bible needs to united with family - BARBER,
« on: Saturday 29 December 12 15:13 GMT (UK)  »
I have the family bible of my Grand Auntie's husband, Luther BARBER. His family was from Lincolnshire.

I'd very much like to unite it with someone who has a stronger connection to the family.

I'll be happy to verify family names via private message if you think you may have a connection.

Hello Carole,

Many thanks for the post.

Sadly, I'm aware of the lack of records, maybe I didn't make myself clear enough, I'm just looking for another pair of eyes to take a look before I bow to the inevitable  :'(

For example, if I searched for Herbert & Clayton, I could find nothing, however, if I type Her* & Clayton, then I get a hit on a few Herbert Clayton's ( that don't come up when you search for Herbert & Clayton bizarrely enough!!) :o

Isn't it fun! (Such fun!)

Thanks,

Andy C

World War One / Pte Herbert CLAYTON Green Howards WW1 - looking for attestation papers.
« on: Wednesday 26 December 12 21:33 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all,

Greetings of the season!

Am looking for the attestation & general records of 58043 Pte Herbert CLAYTON of the Green Howards (Alexandra, Princess of Wales's Own Yorkshire Regiment). This is shown on his CWGC page as 6th Battn Yorkshire Regiment.

He is originally from Carlton juxta Snaith (near Selby), and was killed on April 3rd 1919 while fighting the Russians in Arcangel.

I have his MiC, but cannot find anything else regarding his records on ancestry.com.  I have tried searching all variants of his name, including wild cads, but no success.

Would appreciate if someone else could take a look before I bow to the inevitability of his record not being available.

Many thanks in anticipation.

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Re: Leeds football teams
« on: Saturday 22 December 12 21:24 GMT (UK)  »
Just to add that Leeds City are the forerunner of today's Leeds United, and also played at Elland Road.

They were thrown out of the league and disbanded in 1919 for making "illegal payments" to players during the war.

Leeds United was formed that year and took the place of Leeds City reserves in the Midland league.

The payment issue maybe excluded the record of some players?
