Sarah Acford & William Brown Carpenter are my Great Grandparents. They are the parents of my paternal Grandfather. When clearing my mothers house last year I found my Grandfathers birth certificate. The mother was listed as Sarah Acford Carpenter formerly Morten. I looked for her prior to her marriage but couldn't find her. I eventually sent for their marriage certificate and was surprised to find no reference to Morten at all. As you have said she is consistent in giving Lugwarden Herefordshire as her place of birth but I would like to find out more. We have a very old photo which hung in my grandparents house and my cousins say they were told they were all Carpenters. We believe the elderly couple in the middle of the photo are William & Sarah Carpenter
