Hi Hume,

I would imagine she married at some point in time!  All I do know is that she was born in 1917 and adopted by Moses Miller Dempster and his wife Jean Clark Dempster (nee Scobbie ).  I'm not even sure if Elinor Jean Dempster was her Birth name or her adopted name?

Elinor had a Daughter called Ann Dempster, Glasgow.....unfortunately she was also adopted, so I can only assume she was unmarried at that time,   Ann's Adopted parent's emigrated to Canada shortly after everthing was legalised!  Hope this helps

I would appreciate it if you could help me

Hi everyone,

I am looking for help in tracing the Birthmother of Elinor Jean Dempster, Elinor was born 1st September 1917, Glasgow.  The problem I have is that she was adopted  shortly after her birth....I am not sure if Dempster was her adopted name or her Birthmother's name ?

Elinor Died on the 12 April 1998, 26 Orchard street, Grangemouth, Sterling.

Can anyone tell me who I should contact regarding adoptions?

Kind regards, Kathy

Hi Jim,

Sorry for not replying any sooner, but I have been so busy over the Christmas holiday!

Do you know when Janet and Duncan were married and who their parent's were??

If you are right and Hugh and Allen were Brother's --- then I can fill your tree with a lot more names right down to the present day -- that is if you are ready to have your head cabbaged!

Do you have an e-mail add I can contact you on ?

Regards, Kathy

Mery Christmas to all and a Very Happy New Year

Hi Gadget,

I saw that death entry and thought the same as youself -- he may have returned home for a visit and died there!  you may very well be right, this could be my Hugh; Proving it is going to be very difficult though!

It's a starting point, and I thank you for all your help and I'll start digging right now.

Kind regards, Kathy

Hi Gadget,

Thank you for your welcome!

I'm not sure what religion Hugh McIntyre was unfortunately.  His children where baptized in the "High Church" in Glasgow --- so, would that make him C of E??

I chose the Inverness forum because the 1851 census states that, Hugh McIntyre, age, 34, Coal Labourer, was from fort William, INV!

In the rest of the census forms, the state he was from Corpach --- How confusing!

His Children where:

Duncan McIntyre, born, Dalserf in 1839
William McIntyre, born, Dalserf in 1840
Margaret, born, Glasgow, Lanark in 1842
Janet McIntyre, born, Maryhill in 1849

The first 3 births are all correct, not sure that Janets birth is right??  There appears to be another child called Janet who was born in 1844 --- according to later census forms!  Maybe the first one died??

Thank you very much for all your help!

Kind regards, Kathy
