Scotland / Scottish Radicals 1820

Does anyone have one of the 19 or so Scottish Radicals in their family line?

If so which one?

This was fascinating history to discover. I can lay claim to Andrew Dawson. He was transported to Austrlia with 19 nineteen after the death sentence being commuted.

Thanks sancti...that was brilliant. I did find Agnes Watson McBain and yes another tragedy....died suddenly of heart (so they say) in her thirties. Yes also to Simon McBain....Agnes was on the death certificate and he did marry another woman by the name of Wilson.

So baby Agnes still alludes me. She would have been 16 when Agnes the elder died so could have been out on her own. Agnes the elder had one son James born in 1914.

Apart from scouring every Agnes Russell in Scotland - marriage or death I don't know what to do.

Most of the original family came here to NZ from 1903 to 1928, but this young Agnes wasn't one of them.

She was never mentioned in fact. What a shame.

Lanarkshire / Agnes Russell born March 1900 Douglas

Agnes is my great aunt born illegitimate at Bank House, Douglas. Her mother Janet Waugh Russell was only just 14! Janet was usually called Jessie.

Agnes is in the 1901 census at her grandfather William Russell's home, Douglas, Lanark. In the 1911 Census I can't find her at all. Jessie her mother is in Bothwell listed at Jessie W Russell, domestic servant.

An older sister also called Agnes married in Douglas in 1908 to a Simon McBain. They also can't be found in the 1911 Census. I wondered if baby Agnes might have gone with her as William's wife died before 1900 and this older sister ran the household.

Any help would be brilliant.  ;D
