Leicestershire / Re: Finlow or Finlow-Bates

My DIL very impressed with speed of all this new information ...as am I!!! She said yes she can remember her father talking about Porter Street. Thomas Finlow was born in Salford and going on age at Death around 1879. I  have found a reg birth for Thomas Finlow first 1/4 that year (Thanks for the free BMD web site). Brilliant!
Wow Willsy that's really cool.....I think if my husband went off to war  :'( and left me with 5 sons I'd go home to Mum too!! ;)  or did mum moved in?
Have searched also for marriages Forder and Tarry. It appears Charlotte Tarry married Fredrick Forder in the 4th quarter of 1878. Now looking for birth and death.
D-I-L also said that Charlie Bates (1916), who was Thomas Finlow-Bates's half brother, the youngest of the Bates children, married Lillian's (Thomas's wife) sister.
Thomas apparently called himself Bates not Finlow-Bates most of the time as he was a partner in a Plastering Company with his half brothers.

Thank you everyone, It does appear I have the families in the wrong order ::). First came Bates and all the children then came Finlow with the one child. Even with my mistake you have given us sooo much more information. She will be wrapped to have some names for her tree and to know which line to follow. :) Poor Kate widowed twice with so many children.

Leicestershire / Finlow or Finlow-Bates

Does anyone have any information on Thomas and Kate Finlow, of Leicester around 1920's. As i understand they had a son in 1922 (Thomas)then Thomas snr died and Kate remarried a Mr Bates and had more children. So young Thomas became Thomas Finlow-Bates, he married Lillian Wagstaff. She is still living and is my daughter-in-laws grandmother. They had a son Terry who has passed away. I am asking for information on Thomas and Kate on behalf of Terry's daughter (my daughter-in-law)who now lives in New Zealand

You're right Lu, It was church records this came from, apparently not a BDM record ( should check my facts better :))
I also came across it in an 'Ellen Munday' google search, on a Munday marriages web site.

A cousin has done that search and while he found William he couldn't find the girls.
Perhaps the next step is elimination!
Clara Mary and Nellie Eileen Chandler (as the girls were named) both state they were born in Wellington on their marriage certs. but were they?
Clara Mary died 12th January supposedly aged 79. so that would put her born approx 1883
Nellie Eileen died 2 July 1970 aged 83 so that has her born ~1887
could some body please do a BMD search for us?
I'm not sure if this has been tried before but it's worth a crack! ;D

Lu,
No copy just someone wrote it all down for Mum (pre photocopier days!) and Thomas was the father and the person who registered.

He-he That would make him younger than his bride! so could very well have told a porky or two. The research I have done on him and his bride in NZ doesn't point to honesty! ;D
You may like to follow that thread - same name under 'New Zealand' :)

Thanks for your help KGarrad, Looks promising but wrong age! Thomas states his age at 25 on his marriage cert. in 1877 ::)
Although you'd have to wonder how many Thomas William Chandlers could there be in Jersey!

Ahhh wonderful it so great to have some experts on the case!!! :D
Thank you all for your hard work, It's such an interesting puzzle. Mum said our Clara and little Nellie went to St Joseph's in Wellington but when she made enquiries she was told all records were destroyed by fire. What a shame.

More information from my Mother.....William Arthur Chandler, supposedly born 4th Sept 1878, bapt. 20th Nov 1878 at St Johns, Rangiora.
Despite Thomas advertising he was not responsible for Ellens debts in 1882 He was the one who registered Ellen Gertrude's birth in 1883 :o
