Hi
If this gets to Ramshawlass I have just sent a reply to your message but it cannot be delivered because your message box is full.
I think I have several photos of your family you will be interested in. If you can let me have an e mail address I will reply and send copies of the photo. As said in my reply my Auntie Beaty Snowball is I think the niece of John William Arkless. I have his Victory Medal from WW1.
Regards

Thanks for the information Radcliff and your welcome sillgen. I came across  the photograph and a WW1 medal when we were moving my mother into a retirement home. It comes from her sister in law who had no children and my mother was given a number of photos and possessions. I have looked as far as I can on the internet without actually paying for membership of sites without much success but was very surprised to see someone else searching for the same person. I am still not sure the photograph is John Arkless. I intend to drop into the DLI museum at Durham to see if they can identify the uniform as being from the Lincolnshire regiment if that is possible. Does anyone know how I might find more information on the circumstances of Johns death, where, how etc. I understand there is no grave so details may be scarce.
I also came across a person with the name of Wendyh on another site looking for the same details on John William Arkless. I assume she and genie-ologist to be the same person.

Thanks

Hi
I know you posted this a while ago so not sure if you are still looking for a photograph. I am also searching for information about John William Arkless. I have inherited a photograph which I am told is off John in uniform and a lady who may be wife or girlfriend. It was passed down from relatives in Crook. I do not have a working scanner at the moment. Please get in touch and I will get a copy and forward to you.
