Hello everyone

 I wonder if anyone might help, I'm struggling a little with limited amount of information.

 I'm trying to find as much info as possible relating to a " David Jordan " whom I believe was born in the Chatham, Kent area sorry but unsure of DOB, all I know apart from that very little info is that he served in the Royal Horse Artillery at Waterloo.

 Thank you in advance

World War One / Re: How quickly were a family informed of a death in the First World War

Your welcome Steve, and I'm enclined to agree with you with regarding the speed. I'm sure deaths like my G Grandfathers were reported swiftly partly I guess due to him dying in such a large military complex like Etaples which I guess had an almost interrupted link back to Blitey, it was all but secure from attack apart from the air.

However in your case I'm sure your correct, especially given your comment on him appearing on the memorial, I would hazard a guess that the average notification was at least days, probably weeks and indeed longer for some casualties.

It's slightly off the ball park Steve, but there is some information here if you have not seen already.

I'm not sure if it will help, but my G Grandfather died in Etaples Military hospital France on the 28th May 1917 and the telegram home was received at 16:30 the following day 29th at the local post office, I would assume the post office would not sit on the telegram/ news and would of probably delivered straight away.

Of course I may be wrong.

Hello,

It might be an aid if you could upload the image for all to view, indeed the number could be significant. Without the image it's difficult to help fully.

Regards

Colin

I have done a preliminary search with little reference to a 581 squadron

Armed Forces / Re: Help with Headstone
« on: Friday 26 October 12 20:25 BST (UK)  »
Im not enitrely convinced that it is military, especially given its age, I may be wrong but I thought most military headstones were of a standard shape and from portland stone. I would plump more for civil award or even a society badge, just seems too ornate an headstone for military.

I may be totally wrong.

World War One / Soldier lact of info?
« on: Sunday 23 September 12 15:33 BST (UK)  »
I wonder if all might help in finding records etc relating to two relatives namely;

Great Grandfather, James Wooder b. 15/3/1879 Kilburn d. 28/5/1917 Etaples military cemetery 24th (132nd) Labour coy queens royal west surrey regt.

And my Great Uncle;

Alfred James Greening b. 24/5/1896 Hammersmith, the only military info I have regarding Alfred is that he stated his occupation on his marriage certificate December 1917 as Bombardier RFA.

I would appreciate any information available.
