Hi

Thank you very much for your links and the suggestions of the Gaelic Church. It all looks promising. I will pass on this information and maybe have a trip to the Mitchell Library.

Lanarkshire / St Columba Musical Association, Glasgow

A friend in Australia emailed me to ask if I could find out any information on this musical association in Glasgow. He found this inscription in an old family bible  “Presented to James Murray by the St Columba Musical Association as a mark of respect and esteem for him as a conductor Glasgow June 10 1853”. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Lucy

If you are still researching this beck family then I may be able to help with further details. My line is from Jean (7 in the 1841 census). Grace didn't die but I think was in a houshold in Moffat in 1851. She later married a Kenneth McEwen and moved to Wales.
Your gggrandfather John I think married Elizabeth Webster?

I have some photographs of Applegarth and the headstone of William Beck.

Regards

Hi Meg

I was looking through the posts and came across this one. you seem to have access to some information on Bathgate burial records. I have two ancestors William Edwards and his wife Elizabeth (nee Hately) who were buried in the Old Churchyard Bathgate. I had assumed this to be Kirkton and had a wander through it a few years ago but found nothing. William and his family came to Armadale to work as miners, so probably didn't have a marked grave.

William Edwards died 6th Jan 1858 and Elizabeth Edwards (nee Hately) died 16 Dec 1855. Would there be any information anywhere as to the location of their final resting place?

Thanks

Fiona

I have this Baird family in my tree.

James Baird babt1790 m Isabella Boyes 21st  May 1805,Lochmaben
children
Janet Hunter Baird b1807
James Baird b1808

James Baird b1808  1st married Jean Sharp about 1830. They had 8 children James, Andrew, John, Mary, William, Grace, John, and Jane. Jean (Jane) Sharp died about the birth of their last daughter Jane. James Baird then married Janet Douglas 21 Jan 1856 Lochmaben, and their child
Janet Graham Douglas Baird b28th June 1862 Lochmaben.
My line is from James son of James Baird and Jean Sharp.

I have an interesting story concerning James Baird (b1808), which I found in the Dumfries & Galloway Standard, when I visited the DFHS.

"Dumfries & Galloway Standard, 2nd Agust 1848

JUSTICE OF PEACE COURT, ECCLEFECHAN, 22ND JULY

James Baird, stocking-maker or labourer, residing at Broomhill Park, in the Parish of Lochmaben, pleaded guilty to an assault upon Robert Tenning, farmer, residing at Lochfield, upon the 21st ult, on the public road near Roucan Village, and was fined 10s, or to be imprisoned 10 days."

Let me know if I can help further.

Hi

I'm new to this site but would appreciate details on the Scott & Graham headstone or any other Graham ones. My ancestors were Robert Graham (b abt 1785) and Helen Scott. Does this stone fit?

Thanks
