The Common Room / Re: Free Online Genealogy Course with FutureLearn (Week 1)

I was going to follow everyone when I first joined the course but I never head the time to go through all the introductions and find everyone. The logo has made it a lot easier. ;D Thank you very much.

It's not a great timeline to be looking for a Northern Irish lass ~ 1921 being the cutoff for online searches.

Yep I was coming to that conclusion!

Looking better-
Thomas McCoy married (9 June 1926 Omagh district) Martha Moore

That could be promising. Thank you

Yes my uncle is still alive but his memory is not what it was. Added to this is the fact that, according to other relatives, Ruby tended to lie a lot. It just bugs me that I have this brickwall on my tree. I'd like to be sure when and where she was born and died and clear up whether she was previously married. He is not sure on her parents names - could be Thomas and Martha but not sure. The only information he said was on the wedding certificate is what I gave you. Unfortunately he cannot tell me any more than I've told you - in spite of being married to her!!

The thing is we have no knowledge of her being married before.
Married name was Cutler.

Tyrone / Ruby or Matilda?

I have hit a brickwall regarding my uncles 1st wife. Everyone knew her as Ruby. Her maiden name was McCoy. Born approx. 1927 somewhere near Omagh. She married my uncle on 30th May 1959 at St Andrews Church, Kowloon, Hong Kong. The name on the certificate is Ruby McCoy. I have not seen the certificate and it was, apparently, an army wedding but I can find no details on it. She died in Ireland (don't know where) in approx. 1972. However my uncle says her real name was Matilda Rebecca Elizabeth McCoy. Other than an outward passenger list for a MRS Matilda McCoy on 30th April 1959 travelling to Hong Kong I can find no information for either a Ruby or Matilda. Can anyone help??

Sussex / Re: Barnes Family - East Sussex

Quote
John Barnes (1608 - 1671)
son of William Barnes
John Barnes (1634 - 1638)
son of John Barnes
William Barnes (1676 - 1747)
son of John Barnes

Neither of the John Barnes can be the father of William Barnes. The first John died 5 years before William was born and the second died aged 4  - 38 years before William was born.

You are good.  ;D

It sounds like the right Sarah, so maybe she was illegitimate?

I wondered if Youngman was a nickname? It seems a strange first name to have!
