Hi all

I have a Frederick John Butlin who married a Mary Jane Ubsdell 13/12/1884 they have 6 children Mary, Frederick, Henry, Bertram, Alfred & Ernest.

Then Frederick John Butlin marries a Ruth Clifford 13/5/1906 they have 9 children, Thomas, Ruth, Frederick, Arthur, Jack, Oliver, Charles, Leonard & Beesie.

Mary Jane Ubsdell goes on to marry a William Lee 4/1/1907 not found any children as yet.

Now Frederick John Butlin & Mary Jane Ubsdell don't seem to have considered a divorce which I know is not uncommon at this period in time.

Frederick died 29/11/1944. Have not as yet found a death for Mary.

If any of these names ring any bells I would be very gratefully in hearing from you.

Thank you
Stacey

Hi all

I am new to this chat room but I am hoping that someone may be able to help me.
I have a John Butlin born c1797 marrying a Frances Maria Westbrook 20/10/1828 in Portsmouth. John was according to his naval records born in Hollowell, Northamptonshire. They had a son my 4x greatgrandfather Albert John Butlin born c1840, on the 1851 census he is living with his mother and it is stated that he was born in Portsmouth, 1861 census he says he was born Northamptonshire, 1871 census he says he was born Portsmouth and in 1880 his wife Eliza nee Olding marrys as a widow. I can't find a birth or death entry for Albert.

Back to John & Frances, 12 years seems rather a long time to have a first child even if John was away at sea. John came out of the navy/marine in 1848, where did he go have not found any trace of him since, no census or deth entrys. Frances I am pretty sure is on the 1851 census Butlin mispelt as Button in Portsmouth with Albert, no further trace of her after.

I am praying that there is someone else out there who has Butlin connections in Portsmouth/Portsea area that may be able to help me before I throw my computer out of the window in frustration.

Any info will be so so gratefully recieved.

Thanks
Stacey

Hi all

I am new to this chat room but I am hoping someone will be able to help. I have a Butlin family which is causing me so much frustration, I have a John Butlin who married a Frances Maria Westbrook 20/10/1828 in Portsmouth, Hampshire. According to John's naval records he was born c1797 Hollowell, Northamptonshire. They have a son, my 3x great grandfather Albert John Butlin born c1840 on the 1851 census he says he was born Portsmouth, and is living with his mother, 1861 census he says he was born Northamptonshire, 1871 census he says he was born Portsmouth, Hampshire. I can't find a birth entry for him or a death entry but I know his wife Eliza nee Olding has remarried as a widow in 1880.

Back to John & Frances if they married in 1828 surely there would be a few more children even if he was at sea, 12 years seems to be rather a long time before a first child is born.

Maybe John ran off with someone else, does anyone have a John Butlin born around this time in Hollowell that was in the Royal Marines Artillery or stated as a Seaman R.N. John came out of naval service 1848 and then dissappears, Frances is on 1851 census then she dissappears, Alfred is on 1871 census and then he's gone too.

I really hope some of these names may ring a bell with someone before my computer gets launched out of the window in frustration.

Thanks
Stacey
