My mother's maiden name was Letitia Waring (born 1910, died 2008). I remember her saying she was named after a relative - an aunt, perhaps. She told a wonderful ghost story about the house in which she was born, in Fareham, Hampshire. She had very fond memories both of Lee on Solent, and of Marchwood, where she and her six brothers and sisters grew up. She was very proud of being Irish, but totally disagreed with the prejudice many of her relatives exhibited towards Catholics, as did her mother, Frances (nee Bussell) who came from Dalkey, near Dublin. She married my father, Cyril Saxon (1898-1983), who was from Newport, Wales, in 1947.
