Well we saw this and are trying to establish if its him or not. If it is then we are on our way so to speak.  I think a marriage certificate of Jane and Willliam would probably help...i have no idea where to get this from.  As the eldest son was born in 1927 (nov.) i suspect they married 1926/27, it would have been Belfast I am sure.
Seems that Williams mother married three times, the last name she had was Moran.
Isnt this difficult.?
 :)

I have such scant info on my husbands father. I have his name William McCotter, he married Jane McConnell.  Jane is on the 1911 census aged 6.
I now am 99% sure of Jane's mother (Hannah or Annie MCLEAN).
Can anyone help me - a newbie - find out anything on William McCotter , amazingly we know nothing about his DOB, marriage date, other than he came to England in the late 1940's with 7 of their children.
Two later children were born in England. (My husband being the youngest) There are only three surviving children and know one knows eithers DOB.

Hi colin, Hope you and your wife had a good time in Florida..this website has removed your email address and i suspect it will do the same for mine if I gave it to you
Maybe my telephone number will work * I live in Nottingham.
Quite interesting to see you mention RAF Catterick .
Charles had a son William who had quite a few children. Eva (my grandmother) Caroline (her sister)
Caroline's son (Harry) was stationed at RAF Catterick during the 1950/60's.  So many still live in Darlington.
We seem to be tantalisingly close to finding out which part of Poland he orignates from.
Mum is on a hotline to Darlington with any info I can find on the Menders.
The 'grandfathers' chest was not in a prlour in Darlington but a parlour in Sheffield. An Aunt Bertha had it. Not sure who she is.
I hope we can make contact..I think ?I need to do a few 'posts' in order for me to be able to use the Personal Message service.
Hope to be in contact soon.
Carol

Hi colin, I have just started my family tree yesterday and was staggered at how far I had gone (mum had some old certificates so was a great help...) seems we share Charl Mende.  My great grandfather was William Mender (somehow Mende was dropped) b.1868 on censuses 1871 and 1881 so any info you can pass on would be so appreciated.  I was always told that 'Grandfather Mender'; had travelled from Germany on a trunk, which sat in the Parlour in Darlington. the seat had a dent where he had been perched on the journey to England.  I saw the birth certificate of William today and was sad to see that Christiana was only able to put her 'cross' as her signature.
William and Ann must have been brother and sister?
William worked as a Wire furnaceman, mum told me he lost an eye when he worked there in sheffield. (how awful)...Mum now is 76 and I would love to finally put to rest the rumour about how an ancestor appears to have been German.  Thats all I know about him. Until today we didnt know his name etc..
Thanks a million, Carol and thanks for reading this
