Thank you for responding.  I could not find how to make a new thread.  A baptism record.  On the 1881 census he is shown as coming from Penshaw age 8.  Parents - no father present.  Mother is Ann moore.  Other children are Jane E, Edward W B (from Houghton), Joseph R and Annnie T.  1891, the mother is shown as Ann Smith, she must have remarried.  Thomas is 18 and from Penshaw, Annie age 10 is there.
The 1871 census shows a Thomas Moore 32 from Durham and he is a stoker on a steamship.  Ann wife is 24 and daughter Jane is 9 months.  I think I have the right family.
I acquired Thomas William Moore's marriage certificate for his marriage to Charlotte Wickens Thompson and his father was shown as Thomas Moore (Deceased)  Engineer (Sea Faring).

I wonder if anybody could look a Penshaw Baptisms for me please.  The name is Thomas William Moore and the year of his birth varies between 1872 and 1873.  His father's name was Thomas (according to marriage certificate).

Hi, my Thomas definitely did not go to America.   I have something from someone who says James White married Margaret White - whether this was Margaret McCoy - I don't know.  They had Thomas around 1833 who married Bridget White

Hi, forgot what I was doing!!  So pleased to hear from you.  Have sent you a personal message.  My father (James) was the son of Thomas - also the son of Thomas White and Bridget White.  Would love to have anymore information you may have.
