Thank you Fryatt123 for the information on the Fryatt family. Once I have had time to digest the information I am sure that I will be in touch with lots of questions.

Thank you Standfast and Tyrannosaurus for your advice on where to find out about the 55th. Its very helpful.

Thank you Salty and Ady. Yes, looking at the shoulder title on the original photo with a magnifying glass, it looks like RE. Well spotted. Now I need to find out if I have got any Royal Engineers in the family.

The photo was taken at a studio in Newark, but the family is from Leicester. Does anyone know if any of the Royal Engineers were based in Newark in WW1?

Thanks again!

Thanks Dawn. I am hoping that someone can date the first photo, because I know that the second photo was taken abt 1928, so if someone can tell me for sure whether the photo of the child is much earlier than 1928 or whether it is possible that it is a 1928 photo, that would help me a lot.

I hope that this makes sense.

Hi Janway,
My great-great-grandparents were William Lenton and Elizabeth English. I thought that they married in Sutton 5-4-1870, but I might have made a mistake, I know that Lutton is close to Sutton St James where they lived in 1871. I have a photo of them if its of any interest to you?

Abby
