Hey Geoff,
I do not know this John Etherington you speak of, however he could be a far off relation. My great grandfather James Etherington b.1915 moved to turners hill, and resided in Uckfield where my grandfather was born. I've always heard stories about my family from lurgashall, and the graveyard at the church which is home to a lot of James Etheringtons are my relations. After my grandfather passed away in 2004 I decided that I should really start a family tree because no one in my family has one of the Etherington side.
I have reson to believe that my Great grandfathers dad was called Arthur but I still have this yet to prove, probably over the next few months I might take a trip to Lurgashall, and look at the parish records and hopefully I will find the thing I'm looking for.
If I were you I would take a trip to lurgashall and see if you can find anything out about Harriets family. I do know that the clergy of that area did their own census to see who was currently living there. If you manged to do this I would love to hear how you got on, because it'd be fascinating to know if we were related or not.

Hi Geoff,
Thank you for such a quick reply. I may have to go a check the West Sussex Record office, when I'm next down in Sussex. All I know from talking to family members is that the members of the Etherington family in Lurgashall are my cousins, Aunties, uncles, and great Grandparents. It would be nice to know if I have found someone I am related to.
I do know that two of my cousins Percy, and Arthur fought in the Battle of Loos in the WW1, and they are commemorated at the memorial in France. I am still an Etherington, and we are mainly based down in Sussex still, around, Burwash, E. Grinstead area.
I'll keep doing some research, and maybe i'll find Harriet is a long lost relative of mine.
 Thank you again.
Ali

Hello,
I'm new to this and I know the last post was a long time ago, but I'm a member of the Etherington family from Lurgashall. My Great grandfather James Keith Etherington was born around 1910, however his older sister, Mabel Rose was born 1900.
Anyway I was wondering if I could have any help finding family members. I know from asking around in my family we have roots in Lancashire, but mainly in Lurgashall, and the Midhurst area. Most of the Etheringtons still live in Sussex, and its a very big family. I'd appreciate all the help I can get.

  Thanks,
Ali
