Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Re: William James 1785-1873, Wotton-under-Edge?
« on: Wednesday 17 April 13 09:20 BST (UK)  »
Thanks Victor. It is possible that William wasn't baptised until a year or two after his birth, unusual but not unheard of. It would be worth going back and looking at his marriage entry to see what it said about him. Being married in a different parish, maybe he could have lied about his age!

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / William James 1785-1873, Wotton-under-Edge?
« on: Monday 15 April 13 20:27 BST (UK)  »
William James is a direct ancestor who married Elizabeth Watts in Leonard Stanley in 1805. Later census returns show his place of birth consistently as Wotton-under-Edge. Can anyone with the PRs for Wotton find a baptism and information about his parents?

Wiltshire Completed Lookup Requests / *COMPLETED* Whiteparish - James NOYCE
« on: Monday 25 March 13 10:12 GMT (UK)  »
James Noyce married Caroline Knight in Berkshire in 1832. He returned to Whiteparish where several of their children were baptised. 1841 census shows them living in Whiteparish and 1861 states he was born there, about 1812. Could anyone find a parish record for a baptism that fits?

Thanks

Durham Lookup Requests / Stephen Simpson c1808
« on: Sunday 21 October 12 16:09 BST (UK)  »
Stephen Simpson b. abt 1808 married Hannah Rollings at St Martin in the Fields, Westminster on 11 March 1833. They were living in Fulham in 1841 and 1851, where Stephen was employed as a gardener. In 1860 the whole family emigrated to South Australia. The 1851 census states he was born in Durham. I wonder if anyone could look for him in the PRs?

Kimbrey you're a star. This is definitely the right family as my great-grandmother was Charlotte Holiday Wilkins.

JJ, this is the correct death. His daughter Charlotte married my great-grandfather, William Greening, who was in the same line of business as her father.

As for birth year, it is pretty consistent (1810-1812 so av 1811) if you take out the 1881 cnesus year of 1807 as an aberration.

Thanks for your help Steve. Next time I'm at Oxford RO I'll go through the city PRs and find the marriage.
