Tipperary / Re: Meagher/Maher of Knigh or Ballyanny
« on: Monday 08 September 14 23:44 BST (UK)  »
I have since discovered that my great grandmother Mary Meagher may have lived at Lodge or Puckane near Nenagh prior to her marriage to James Meagher (perhaps a relative!) in 1855. After marriage they lived in Monsea, beside Carrig church. Mary was a sister of James Meagher of Ballyanny who was a prosperous farmer. He lived at Ballyanny House from the mid to late 1800's. His wife was Kate, however as I haven't located a marriage record have no other info about Kate. James is buried at Kilmore cemetery near Silvermines.
I believe that some Meagher relatives may have emigrated to the US or Australia during the 1800's, including some of Mary's daughters of whom we cannot locate. If some of this information rings a bell for anyone I would welcome some contact.

Tipperary / Meagher/Maher of Knigh or Ballyanny

I am researching my Greatgrandmothers family. I believe she was from Monsea parish and from the Knigh or Ballyanny ares. Her name was Mary Meagher. She was born circa 1830. Marys father may have been John and I have located a John and William who may have been brothers. The names James and Stephen Meagher also appear in baptismal certs for her children and Francis Maher as informant  on her husbands death record.
Is anyone else researching these names?

Thanks Katherine.  I have traced back quite a way using those sources.  I was hoping I might be able to find domeone else tracing them as I have come to a stop .

I am researching my Meagher ancestors and the name Stephen Meagher appears as a baptismal sponsor for my grandfather in 1866 in Monsea near Nenagh. My ggrandmother was Mary Meagher from Knigh or Ballyanny near Nenagh. I think that this Stephen is her nephew. Does any of this link in with your information? Could they be the same Stephen? I have a copy of your Stephens death cert from rootsireland and can give you the info if its of use to you.

Tipperary / Re: Maher Family - Tipperary

My ggggrandfather was James Maher born 1786 north of Nenah Tipperary.
He was the son of Michael.  He married Catherine Hanley and had 5 children James 1827, Edward 1821, Catherine 1834, Thomas 1825, and Ellen 1836.  The family left Ireland in the late 1840's and moved to Ontario, Canada.  The children married local Tipperary folks.  James wed Ellen Cain (do William Cain and Hannah Flannery), and Catherine wed Roger Carroll.  Looking for any one with ties back to Tipperary.

Do you know what part of the Nenagh area James came from as Maher/Meagher are common names in that locality?  Have you any other family information that could help?

I forgot to add that Mary Meagher or Maher was also from Monsea Parish but we think she may have been from Knigh or Ballyanny townslands....

Hi Tara.
Marys maiden name was also Meagher or Maher. I have found nine baptismal certs for this couple....there were two Ellens, four years apart so the first died as a young child. I was hoping that the names might ring a bell with someone out there. As my grandfathers parents married in feb 1855 there is no one who remembers them obviously and my grandfather died in 1925 so I am finding it difficult to find links in our family tree.....any one with any possible info???? I'd really appreciate it.

Tipperary / Re: Griffiths Valuation problems

I had the same problem too. I think that the ordinance survey maps are of the correct place but the boundries are for an earlier or later date to that of the Griffiths valuation which is a pity. I don't know if the correct version is available.

Tipperary / Meagher/Maher of Carrig, Monsea. Nenagh
« on: Thursday 23 August 12 23:44 BST (UK)  »
I am searching for five sisters of my grandfather. Their names: Mary, Anne, Sarah, Margaret and Ellen Meagher. Born between 1855 and 1868 in Carig, Monsea, Nenagh. Co. Tipperary. Their brothers John and James (my grandfather) and sister Hanora (called Nora) remained in Ireland. Their parents were James Meagher (a farmer) and Mary Meagher. As I cannot find any marriage records I am assuming that they emigrated. I have no idea to where, as we only discovered they existed last month. If anyone has any info I would be most grateful as I feel that if we find one we will find more with her.
