Sonas, one fella says Dun manway, then the next one says,i think he said down Monaghan way,it probably suited Denis/Dan to let it roll that way, and i don't doubt he completed the 1911 census himself, accents etc-.like: send reinforcements we're going to advance, became, send three and fourpence we're going to a dance. The family details are on the 1901 castle st census., minus  his deceased parents ,Denis Crowley/Julia Bernard/Barnane/ Crowley,of main st dun manway. There are a couple of discrepancies on the marriage(1911),the g.r.o. went sure if it read Denis Crowley or crawly, the Ellen Burke  bit probably half o.k.,she said her father,(Patrick Burke)deceased was a cork-cutter,i suspect that was a reference/joke;re Dan/Denis - Cork.Ellen's sister Christina married William Rattigan in the same church in 1909, she said Patrick Burke was a labourer, corkcutter was a trade.anyway thanks again sonas.antlad

Sonas,I have followed up the info/tip you sent me.It looks to me that the Denis on the 1901 Dunmanway  census is the same (Daniel) man on the 1911 Ash/Ashe street Dublin census.Based on the new info, I believe the Monaghan bit is relevant to Dunmanway ,(downmanaghanway) , + at the time he filled in the 1911 census,he probably felt it appropriate to be inaccurate with the info he provided,he was also known as' Sham'(nickname), Meantime I will continue to piece the jigsaw to-gether,thanks again for your pointer,Antlad.

thanka sonas,i cannot explain the birth of patrick, his age,nor the length of time denis/daniel crowley and ellen burke were to-gether before marrying in jan 1911.i do'nt know if patrick's regst surname was burke or crowley.castle st denis's parents were denis crowley and julia bernard(barnane) crowley,i found both their deaths  ,denis the father died within weeks of the birth, julia the mother died soon after.thanks for the prison info, interesting, the dublin denis is in dublin ,getting on with things, ellen having childer all through married years.now i'm thinking. ???,thanks again sonas.

thanks sonas, the daniel crowley, ash st on the dublin 1911 census is my  gt grand/f.                                                    denis crowley married ellen burke,10th jan 1911, st nicholas ,both give 9 upr kevin st as their address.                        on the census not too long after, they've moved, and so it was until 1958 and 1960,every documant i've seen has a different address on it,he's,daniel crowley, denis crowley, denis crawley, daniel crawley, even daniel crolly, the mystery man.thanks again sonas.

thanks sonas,my gt gr father's name was denis/daniel crowley.he'not on the 1901 census for dublin or monaghan.he appears on the dublin 1911 census in ash st,aged 21, stating that he comes from monaghan.i have searched monaghan,no joy.i have his marriage cert,he states that his father's name was denis'deceased, both parents deceased.   we are told that he came from cork.                                                  there is a denis crowley in castle st dunmanway in 1901 aged 11,orphaned with an older brother john.both parents are deceased,i found them.this denis from castle st father's name was also denis, then he is absent from dunmanway in 1911.                                                                                                              coincidence, same name, same age, same father's name, both parents deceased, missing from dunmanway  census, turns up on dublin 1911 census.   i'm trying to find out if castle st denis left dunmanway between 1901 and 1911 ,he's the main suspect at the minute. many thanks sonas.                                                                                                    ,

thanks shane ,maybe the different accents had a part in the story,he married Mary Ellen Burke in Francis st church in Jan 1911,she was a flower seller up Grafton st,lots of child er,one of which was my grandfather, Augustine.to be honest i have discovered some discrepancies(porkies)here and there, maybe he deliberately said Monaghan in 1911,the Denis I suspect,is baptised dun manway, child of ,Denis Crowley and Julia Barnane ,main st , then orphaned at castle st 1901,then ???,thanks again Shane.

« on: Saturday 18 August 12 21:28 BST (UK)  »
i am trying to find info re  my great grand father,denis/ daniel crowley,he is in ash street, dublin, aged 21 on the 1911 census,. he is absent in 1901.i am told he came from cork.there is a denis crowley aged 11 at castle st dunmanway 1901 census and absent in 1911.,other similarities, same age, both parents deceased, etc.i am wondering if'castle street denis'remained in dunmanway,he had an older brother named john born 8 years before him also in dunmanway.maybe he left dunmanway for dublin between 1901 and 1911.the family at castle street were cattle dealers.maybe someone  might be researching and  could'nt find him after 1901.here goes.
