Worcestershire Lookup Requests / Re: Lower Mitton

Hi Ciderdrinker, thank you for the response. Sadly I am unable to get to either the Latter Day saints in Lichfield (my nearest) or any of the libraries in and around Kidderminster so I am, to put it lightly, shafted. Nice to speak. Thanks again. Mike

It was only a small paperback published over 9 years ago. I am not sure that the author is still alive. She was of advanced years then. I have contacted the local history society but she was not part of them. Thank. Mike

Worcestershire Lookup Requests / cookley James mathews
« on: Sunday 12 November 23 15:28 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I have been trying to obtain a copy of Betty Caswells publication about Cookley. Sadly I cannot see one anywhere not even a second hand one. The Mathews family were originally from Lower Mitton and James Mathews lived in Cookley and died there. He and his wife Mary (Gibbs) raised their family and their oldest son James Mathews was born and died in Cookley. He married Elizabeth Palmer from Wribbenhall and she sadly died aged 42 and was buried in Cookley Graveyard in 1858. James then married a widow lady named Caroline Littlewood (Nee Marsh). There were 11 members of the Mathews living in Austcliffe Row (Road ?)
I am putting together the life of John Mathews born 1843 who left Cookley and moved to Tipton. He went on to become a Holloware fireman (for cannon) and then became an Insurance Agent and became the Choirmaster of Ladymoor new Wesleyan Chapel, Coseley.
I am seeking any useful information please regarding any locations or building remnants etc to help draw up a fitting picture for this lovely man and his life.
Many thanks in advance
Mike Charles Rev. Ret.d

Worcestershire Lookup Requests / Lower Mitton
« on: Saturday 10 July 21 10:30 BST (UK)  »
Some years ago I hit a Brickwall (PAINFUL! accounts for my looks!)
James Mathews, according to the census records was born in
LOWER MITTON, Worcestershire in 1775/6. His son James Mathews was also born there.
James Mathews senior died in 1857 in Horsley Row, Cookley, aged 82.
I have searched in vain for any records of James seniors birth. I believe that he married
Mary GIBBS and they moved to Cookley with their children.
CAN YOU HELP PLEASE?

Many thank you's in advance.

Mike

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / Re: Samuel Charles 1795ish Swansea.
« on: Monday 01 March 21 10:05 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you so much for your valuable input, it really is appreciated. My brick wall has always been Swansea, South Wales. I have two online documents that clearly state that Samuel was born in Swant*** and South Wales Swansea. The enumerator would have written down what Samuel said to him. The entry is very clear to read. There are plenty of Charles families in the area and I have explored them but the links are very, very tenuous.
I wonder did Samuel travel from Swansea as a sponsored worker? I have much information about the area. I have his marriage to Miss Price but the witnesses are locals. Was Samuel hiding his birth place? I have no reason to see why he would, he seems a hard working male. It is a puzzle that has been bugging me for about 20 plus years. Thank you all again so much. Mike
