Yup.
In Johannesburg born and raised.
My sister lives in the UK now though so I do visit often and have actually been to the church where Alfred Cox's wife, Elizabeth Rhoade's parents were married.
I just wish I'd known at the time.

Do you have any birth/baptism records for the 7 children?
I'm especially interested in Matilda and Anne as I can't find them.
I have found the rest from the Dorset OPC:

Their children:
•   Richard Pavey,
baptised 8 Jan 1845; Richard Cox PAVEY (illegitimate) son of Matilda Pavey (ST MARY'S)
•   Milbro,
baptised 26 May 1847;
Milbro COX; son of Richard & Matilda Cox (Sail Maker) (ST MARY'S)
•   Matilda,1849?
•   Ann, 1851?
•   John (Master Mariner,went to New Zealand),
Baptised 14 Nov 1851;
 John COX son of Richard & Matilda Cox (Sail Maker) (Abode - Weymouth) (ST MARY'S)
•   Charles
Baptised 28 May 1856;
Charles COX son of Richard & Matilda Cox (Sail Maker)  (ST MARY'S)
•   Alfred(Master Mariner).
Baptised 23 Mar 1858;
Alfred COX son of Richard & Matilda Cox (Sail Maker) (ST MARY'S)

Do you have the actual Census record of Alfie at the Charity School? I did see that he was listed there but I haven't commited to paying any site to get the record as I don't know which one is best.

Any advice?

Milbro COX; son of Richard & Matilda Cox (Sail Maker) (ST MARY'S)
•   Matilda,1849?
•   Ann, 1851?
•   John (Master Mariner,went to New Zealand),
Baptised 14 Nov 1851;
 John COX son of Richard & Matilda Cox (Sail Maker) (Abode - Weymouth) (ST MARY'S)
•   Elizabeth, ??
•   Charles
Baptised 28 May 1856;

So do you think that Richard Cox Pavey was actually Richard Cox's son? I'm totally going to read some Tom Hardy books.
That's so interesting!
Richard's and Matilda's son Alfred (Baptised 23 Mar 1858 - St. Mary's Malcombe Regis);  is where my line comes in.
He married Elizabeth Rhoades (I can't find their marriage record. I know that her family were from Brighton)  and they had a son called John
John had a son called Peter John. (I can't find this baptism record)
They moved to South Africa.
Peter John's oldest son is also Peter John.
Peter John Jr had 5 children, his youngest is ME!  :)

Would you be able to send me the information you have on Matilda and Richard's family?

That would be awesome!

Also... Hi there distant cousin! hehehe  ;D

Hi there,

My great, great, great grandfather, Richard Cox married a Matilda Pavey in 1846.
She had a baby before they were married who is registered as illegitimate in the OPC baptism register.
He went by Richard Cox Pavey.
Matilda's father was Charles Pavey. (Obviously not Charles Lanning Pavey as this was way before 1893)

I'm still researching it. Do you think there might be a connection?
