The Lighter Side / Re: Has Time Team Been Axed?
« on: Wednesday 10 February 10 19:01 GMT (UK)  »
I have always quite enjoyed Time Team.

Does anyone remember when TT dug up gold buckets in the field somewhere (sorry cant remember where) and then they re-buried them and threw loads of nails around the field to confuse the metal detectors.

Why did they do that and not have them in a museum somewhere for all of us to see?

Thanks for pointing this out.

Deleted without opening.

We decided some while ago not to answer any questionaires from anybody regardless of who they came from.

You have to make yourself as safe as possible these days with all the fraud etc going on.

Thanks again to all.

The Common Room / Military Service Records
« on: Friday 06 November 09 19:55 GMT (UK)  »
Just discovered how useful these records are because of the diligence of the Army who records families, children, addresses.

I have been looking into these records and uncovered a second marriage of the father, two step children, two other children classed as full blood to the deceased soldier all in 1919.

Now all I have to do is find the two brothers (the soldier and his brother) in the 1911 census having found them in this paperwork.

The Common Room / Re: Family history is thoroughly corrupted

Firstly, I do not have my tree on the net.

While browsing Axxxxxxy family trees I come across quite frequently my gt grandfather is named in trees.

I have the shortest genealogy line in history, can name them on one hand., so why does his name crop up.

I check the trees if it is a public tree and cannot see any connection with him and the rest of the tree.

Please understand I might be wrong and is missing the missing link.

Because my line is short obviously I have spread out sidewards to include my gt gt grandfathers brothers and sisters to make my tree interesting for me.

Secondly, if while browsing these trees and you see an obvious mistake do you contact the owner of that tree to correct them.  I dont but I do get irritated by it.

I try to back up and have a paper trail for verification when I can, if not, even my research has a question mark on it.

Can I add another author to the pot.

Elizabeth Chadwick - medieval fiction.

Just discovered her myself and am enjoying her books when I can find them in the library.

Did any one see Tales from the Green Valley as I never did.

The DVD can be bought from the internet only bookshop quite reasonably and I wondered whether it was worth getting.

Any views appreciated.
