Thanks to all this has been helpful but still can't find a date, ship or place he arrived in Aust.
His death is 23 Dec 1905 at Melrose South Aust. That part is not a problem.

Marriage Cert does not have his parents name. Our family folklore has that, after arriving in SA, at least one of the children travelled to NSW in the care of a Church of England minister. Given it was not John and does not appear to be George, it could have been this child, which could account for his not knowing his parents names and also lack of consistency in some of the earlier documents about William.

Thanks for your help

Williams Briggs Born 1845 to John and Anne Briggs (nee Butler) Died NSW age 100 (?)
Arrived  on the 'Poictiers" from London via Plymouth 13/11/1848 in South Australia he would have been 3

Facts: George, John and Roseanne (Rose Anne) were on the boat with their parents. Records have 5 children so maybe one of the children was William.  Their eldest child Catherine was already in Australia by this date.  I have detailed information of these 4 children.

If this is the William- I do have infro about his parents, especially Anne Butler.
John and Anne Briggs son John also married an Anne (my great great grandparents)
I will keep looking assuming it was William on the boat abut any more help would be great.

Thanks for all of that. Frederick Briggs - middle name likely to have been William Died 23 Dec 1905 Melrose South Australia.  I have his parents as Robert and Ann (both born about 1781) but can not verify this. I believe he may have come to Australia in about 1848 but that is a deductive guess, maybe with his grandfather, uncle or brother!!!!!

Thanks David we are talking about the same person in SA.

Jo that was helpful although I have his born about 1828. Does anyone have any information about his siblings.

It would appear every second family in Northumberland area was named Briggs!!! and all managed to have John and William in their names!!

Just read some earlier posts. Yes John Briggs (Jr) did marry Anne Campbell in the Mintaro Church  19/2/1857 and they had 11 children. Only their eldest child Mary Ann born 7/1/1858 (my great grandmother) married. I have details of births and deaths of all the children, four of whom entered the Convent of Mercy. Two are buried in Coolgardie WA

Hi I am back on the family trail. My Great great grandfather was John Briggs (Jr) George's brother. Firstly, yes all of John's descendants are very musical - except me!!!!!!
I have now discovered George, John, Rosanne and William were 4 of the 5 children who came to Aust with John Briggs (Sn) and his wife Anne Butler. Have not found child no 5 yet????  Also John Briggs (Sn)( whose father was Robert Briggs) had a brother Frederick who also came to Aust and settled in South Aust.
