The William to whom I refer was a son of Robert and Albert's brother.

My wife is a descendant of Robert Skelton b. 1839, Carlisle, Cumberland, England and his son Albert. Albert's daughter, Ruby was my wife's grandmother.
I know a descendant of William. He lives near us.

Argyllshire / John McCormick and Mary McFarlane, married at Iona 1846

Monica,
I am new to this and having some difficulty getting to the McFarlane links, so I just grabbed this one to contact you.  Coincidentally, McCormicks are a sept of the McLean Clan.
You answered questions about Hugh McFarlane of Mull and Iona that caught my eye.  My great great grandparents, John McCormick and Mary McFarlane were married at Iona on December 19, 1846.  They had one son, John, before emigrating to Canada.
I noticed that the Hugh McFarlane family given names are, for the most part, the same names given to John and Mary's children.  My great grandfather, Angus, was the second son born to the marriage.  They also had sons named, Alexander, Hugh and Neil, I am wondering if my gg Grandmother, Mary is part of the family you reference in your post.
