Hi Stephen

Thanks for that. I came to the same conclusion with Anne Messenger however when I found a site with Gretna Green marriages on it there was a James Beatty married to Ann Messenger of Abbey Holme,England!!!! Something weird afoot here?

Happy hunting and many thanks

Hi Stephen

The Hannah Beattie you mention born 1804 Abbey Holme was my 3x Gt Grandmother. She married William Fearon and died in Keswick in 1874.Both Hanah and William are buried in the St Johns Church Keswick but their headstones are missing or have been overturned.I too cannot find her baptism or marriage records anywhere and I am unlikely to as I do not live in the UK so cannot visit the Carlisle Records Office to search manually. Any other info you find about Hannah would be very much appreciated by me.Best of luck

Sheila

Thanks very much everybody for the advice. I was told they were in St Johns Church, Keswick by a lady who is related by marriage to the Fearons and has been researching our tree for decades - all the info is on my tree on a well known Ancestry site so she has gone through it all and checked for me. It is interesting to see you mention St Kentigerns as one of my ancestors was baptised there. Are the Carlisle Archives online or will I have to write to them to check for me?
Sorry it is a lot of questions again but thanks very much for all the help

Thanks very much for the email.I have just noticed my mistake. My 2xGt Grandfather was William and not Joseph Fearon. He was born in July quarter 1804 in Braithwaite and died  13 Mar 1873 in Portinscale,Keswick. He is buried in St Johns Church,Keswick-His parents were Joseph Fearon and Jane Reay (Wray).
Hannah, his wife, was born in Mowbray, Abbey Holme abt 1804 and she died 09 Mar 1874 in Portinscale,Keswick. She is buried with William in St Johns Church,Keswick.I cannot find her marriage or maiden name or anything else about her so it is intriguing me.
They had 9 children:
Joseph b 1830,Caldbeck,Crosthwaite.Died Sept 1905 Barton upon Irwell, Lancs
Mary b Abt 1832, Crosthwaite.Died 1894 Workington
Jane bAbt 1834 Braithwaite,Keswick
William b 14 Feb 1836 Keswick.Died 07 June 1864 Keswick
John b 1837 Keswick
Isaac b 14 Jan 1841 Applethwaite, Under Skiddaw,Keswick.Died after 1901
Anne b.Jul 1843 Keswick
Henry b Aug 1845 Keswick
James b1850 Keswick. Died after 1901

With such a collection you can see how I failed to understand why I couldnīt find any evidence of them in the graveyard at St Johns!!

If any of this rings any bells I would be extremely grateful as I have no idea if or when I will be able to get back to the UK again to go and search records etc for myself

Please can anyone help me.My 2Gt Grandfather Joseph Fearon married Hannah from Abbey Holme. They both died and were buried in St Johns Parish Church,Keswick in 1873.I live in Spain but visited the Churchyard last year and could not find any Fearon graves or even any Vicar.I cannot find any record of the marriage either but have been told that a lot of records were lost in a firs at Abbeyholme in recent years. Please can anyone help me as I have hit a brick wall now.I tried emailing the Minister at St Johns,Keswick but it was returned as not able to deliver it.

Many thanks
