World War One / Re: Scotish WWI Uniform
« on: Monday 04 October 10 15:27 BST (UK)  »
Thanks for all your help. Through another source I was given a clue it might be a Canadian uniform. I followed that up and sure enough I found his Attestation Papers when he joined the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force. He was part of the 3rd Divison Engineers. In civilian life he was a teamster so he probably was a driver during the war. What initially through me off was the picture is of him and his younger sister and the picture was taken in Huntly in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

Again thanks for the help.

Norm

I have a photograph of my uncle taken in or around 1918 in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Can anyone help identify the service he was in?

Thanks.

Thank you very much for the update. Every little piece helps to get the full picture.

If you are interested:

George Milne and Margaret Mann had at least three children:

Elizabeth ca 1814 Insch
Robert 18 Oct 1829 Insch - he died sometime after 1889
Elspet 7 Sep 1834 Insch

They were married in Insch on 8 Mar 1829. George died before the 1851 census as Margaret was recorded as a widow.

Elizabeth Milne had a child with Robert Duguid named Alexander Duguid 21 Sep 1834 in Insch. I am not sure they ever married.
Elizabeth did marry a Francis Sheriffs (various spellings) 11 Jun 1846 in Insch and had two children.
Elspet 16 May 1847 and James 17 Sep 1848 both in Insch.

Robert Milne married Helen Jane Blacklaws 21 Jun 1856 in Borrowfield, Montrose, Angushire
They had at least one child Elsie Sheriffs Milne 18 Jan 1870 In Rothney Village, Premnay.

Elsie Sheriffs Milne married  Robert A. Smith 22 Jun 1899 they had a number of children as I have a photograph of the family but haven't found any official records as of this time. Robert is my paternal grandmother's brother.

The final one, Elspet Milne, the data is sketchy at this point.

I have copies of all the related census, birth, baptismal, marriage and death records if you are interested.

Your Jane Benzie was actually born in 1854. It would make her too young to be the same one as my Jane Benzie. The birth data for your Jane follows:

No   Date   Surname   Forename   Parent Names/Frame No.   Sex   Parish   GROS Data   Image   Extract
7   09/04/1854   BENZIE   JANE   DAVID BENZIE/ELIZABETH FORSYTH   F   FOVERAN   195/00 0005   No Image   ORDER

You can obtain this and other data on your Scottish roots at:

http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

It is not free but all the records are there.

Their son a Charles Park (b.1897) born in Sandhole, Techmuiry, Strichen. He married (Jun 1925) a Mina Ross Findlay (b.1897) in Ban-Car, Lonmay.

I also have a few Milne's (George, Robert, Elsie Sheriffs, Elspet, and others) mostly around Insch and Premnay, in Aberdeenshire.

I also have Duncan's but mine are from Tarves.
